Gagging when brushing teeth?
« on: April 07, 2010, 10:43:50 pm »
My wisdom teeth have all come in, and so I need to brush farther back when I brush my teeth (I don't have the money to get them removed), and sometimes, this causes me to gag.  On rare occasions, the gagging is so severe that I've vomited a little.

Has anyone had gagging issues while brushing their teeth and know any good cures?

My wisdom teeth are gone, yet when I brush my teeth, I gag. I don't know what the solution is. If there is one, that will be great because its annoying for me to brush my teeth after I eat breakfast. I try not to think about throwing up, so I'm able to contain the problem. I'm chubby and have a lot of padded stuff around my neck. lol

here's a link for taming the gagging reflex:  http://www.dentalfearcentral.org/gagging_dentist.html  it's something to start with.  I've ALWAYS had an issue with gagging and brushing...and taught myself to stop by breathing differently.  hope this helps!

My brother told me that in the Marines they actually taught him to brush 'em til you gag. I think it actually helps to clean the bacteria off of your tongue or something.

I always gag when I brush my teeth. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one.
