Low to moderate levels of this colorless/odorless gas can cause flu like symptoms (without fever).  As levels increase, the toxic effects of carbon monoxide can be deadly, especially for children because the gas prevents oxygen from getting to the heart and brain.  You should have them outside bedrooms and other sleeping areas.

Carbon monoxide Monitors are important, because you don't want to be up at 1AM trying to figure out if it's safe to go to bed or not.  Also, beware of improperly ventilated gas heaters.

agreed.  I've had mild carbon monoxide poisoning before, through some contractors' errors in the basement of a building I lived in 14 years ago.  not the best experience of my life...and we did not have a detector.  thankfully, only two of us were affected, and very few tenants were home at the time.

It is very important to keep an eye on the flow that enters your household but some people do not have a warning device installed.
