Do people go to libraries anymore or use the phone book to look up info?

Sandie,

I have not been to the library in probably 10 years.  On the other hand, my wife and young daughter usually go once a month.  They seem to really enjoy the peacefullness of the library over being at home and looking things up on the computer.  I just bought a new "NOOK" reader and it has the capability to "borrow" books from the local library.  The NOOK may just have changed how I look at visiting the library.  Good discussion question.

I still do. Libraries are my second sanctuary ranked next to city parks.  :peace:  Libraries usually carry all the reference material you need.  :)

they're kinda rude at my library too! they're all older women
who seem to have a chip on their shoulder about something,
and i just can't figure out what. rarely smiling, somewhat nosy,
helpful but not without being snippy first, etc. i think a librarian
job would be neat! not the most exciting thing in the world, but
how much more of a laid back environment could you ask for?

anyway, yes! i still use and love the library. i hope that books
are something that stick with us over time, and not something
that disappears into the depths of the past as more and more
technology creeps in :(

I haven't been to the library in so long. We didn't have internet a few months ago and I was thinking about going there to use the internet and not to read. Which is kind of sad but hey I was losing money 'cause I couldn't get on here.

I have never lived close enough to a library to regularly visit one.  Now when I was attending university, I was in that library every day I had class.  The atmosphere was perfect for studying; doing research/hw, as it should be.

I still go to the library.  I prefer the library over buying books.  To me buying a book is a waste of money because I will only read it once.

I love libraries but don't usually have time to go. I normally buy my books because one day I would like to have a room in my house for a library. But because of the economy, it looks as if I will be going back to the library. My main problem is that some of the most current books aren't always there.

There actually are people (just  24% of our population) who don't have computers. Libraries provide their sole access to this resource. Also,  17% of Americans  live below the poverty line and can't be blowing $100 at Barnes & Noble.

trying to go there more these days....keep myself fresh by checking out those magical things
called books....plus it's a good place to get away from everything and be peaceful and relax!

The phone book..?

I don't go very often at all, but I went today to find a book that I have to read for college because I didn't want to buy it.

I haven't been to the library since college, and that was only for reference books that I was required to read AT the library. However, my wife just took my son (3 years old), and now it's becoming a monthly visit for them. I definitely think libraries are becoming a kid-thing with all of the eReaders/online books out there.
