abandoned cat.
« on: September 22, 2010, 07:29:38 pm »
there's this cat who's owner moved out and just left it. the house is right across the street from my parents and i have been feeding it everyday i am over there. i dont know if ne one else is feeding it, but i havent seen ne one over there in weeks..not even the landlord. i feel bad for the cat coz she just left it. left it with no food..& no shelter. i would take the poor cat in but my fiance is allegic to cats and we cant have pets so all i can do is help the poor kitty out by feeding it and letting it rome around the neighborhood has it has been doing. i dont want to call animal control coz who's to say it's going to be adopted before they potentially put it down. i dont know what's going to happen with it during winter, i really hope someone takes it in. i dont want it freezing to death. i will feel really bad. my parents dont want another cat, but have been helping me feed it by supplying me with scraps and everything they dont eat, that a cat can eat. someone gave him food and a bucket of water the other day but i have no clue who it was. i gave it what was left of mine and my parents cat's hard cat food that she refuses to eat. the bag is empty now..so i guess it will be scraps for now on. my parents think i'm doing a good thing even though it's not my responsiblity. i know it's not but i dont want the poor thing to die. it's not his fault it's owner just up and left it.

Try and see if you have a Humane Shelter. Unlike Animal shelters they do not put the babies to sleep if they dont have to. If you find one you may want to donate food for the cause. Ours here is awesome. Just ask and make sure they dont put them down.

The mom to the puppy I am getting was dropped off at a friends house one week before she gave birth. Some people think if you drop the animals off in the country they will be ok but that is wrong. We have coyotes around here real bad and your pet could turn into their food. It is really sad.

I'm in a similar position.  Somebody moved out and abandoned their kitten, and she would visit me at night and beg for food, then go "home" at sunrise and wait for her family.  After a week she stopped leaving and moved into my kitchen.

I'm not sure what to do with her because I don't need another cat.  But she is very sweet.

It breaks my heart to hear about these stories. People need to learn some responsibility. Anyways, you're doing a great thing feeding the kitty even though you can't take her in. Definitely try to find it place to live though - maybe post some signs around the neighborhood and see if anyone might want a kitty?

There are a lot of cats around the neighborhood where I live.  The cats are free as a bird.  They just sit or walk around in the streets.

A few months ago someone was bold enough to pull right into our driveway in the early morning and drop off a cat. She's really friendly, but we don't exactly need another cat. She's pretty thin and I don't know whether or not she's fixed (I hope so). We don't have indoor cats, so we'll have to try to get a shelter to take her so she doesn't freeze to death in the winter. I don't know why people are so rude as to drop off their animals and expect someone else to go through the expense of taking care of them or finding a new home.

It is so sad that little animals are tossed out onto the street because their selfish owners have no regard for their wellbeing. Unfortunately it happens all too often. I have saved many cats from the streets and found homes for them. Three of the cats I actually have kept because they won my heart. Post some flyers around your neighborhood veternarians offices, and stores. That is a great start and gets you in the right direction towards finding the cat a new home. Ask your friends if they know of anyone that might be interested in adopting a companion. I hope you find the cat a home and I wish you good luck.

My heart goes out to that cat.  I am a devout cat lover and this kind of stuff should not happen, that is why pet owners need to have their dog/cat spayed or neutered.

i would make flyers but i'm just now getting the cat to come closer and i cant get a good pic...i have tried. it knows i bring the food coz once i stop trying to have her come out of the bushes and leave she comes out and eats. today it was just out of arms length to me. i wanted to pet it but it's not letting me yet. i really want one of the neighbors to take it in coz they already have a cat. i tell everyone i talk to about it. i almost had a home but she ended up telling me no coz she lives with her bf and they dont want ne more pets. if she was living by herself in her own place i"m sure she would take it coz she had one before and had like 2-3 dogs. I'm really trying to find this kitty a good home. maybe i can ask the neighbors around me..coz i know a few of them have cats. maybe they can foster it until i find a good home and keep it out of the cold.

Cats can become "ferrel" (spelled wrong) real fast, ie....wild.  Even your normal house cat can become this way if they are left outside too long and forgotten.  The younger they are, the more the danger of ending up this way.  They can get mixed up with wild cats, and become wild themselves.  Once this happens, you can't get close to them.  They will eat what you leave out, but very seldom will you tame them to be a pet.  It's been done, but it's rare.

A cat will actually leave a place it doesn't like, and become wild also.  Preferring the wild life over domestication.
