Sickening Child Abuse!

I am soooo angry right now.

My nieces and nephews have been temporarily removed from my sister in law and brothers care because of child abuse. They were staying with my parents but my parents are disabled and were having a hard time. A new case worker got put on the case and I offered to take one of the children and the case worker said she needed to discuss placement with the mother.

Discuss placement with the mother, that pulls out chunks of their hair, who masturbates while breastfeeding, who spanks the children to the point that they are bleeding, who feeds them a diet of nothing but granola bars and capri suns, who drags them to their rooms by their hair while screaming profanities at them.

They needed to discuss placement with her. Well they did discuss it and she accused my mother of intentionally burning one of her children with a curling iron and she wanted the children placed with HER mother (where she herself lives). The new case worker took this into consideration and you know where the children are going? To her mothers.

They are going to stay with a woman that tried to kill their mother, and stay with a man that repeatedly sexually molested their mother. How does this make ANY sense! I am so dumbfounded and TICKED OFF, that this is even happening?!!

Somebody please explain the purpose of Child Protective Services?

My sister has supervised visitation and she NEVER abused her child. This woman severely abuses her children and her parents severely abused her and CPS is putting those kids in a house full of child abusers!!!!

oh wow if i was in that situation i would ask a lawyers advice on what to do. by doing it this way and going thru court you might have a better chance at getting the kids out of the situation.

Unfortunately Sherene, Child Protective Services is just the opposite of their name.  I deal with this situation sometimes.  Even Clergy have no say or stated "evidence" that is taken seriously.  We have a broken system.  I'll pray.  When it goes before a judge is the time to "present" other evidence.

They were removed from your Sister-in-laws for child abuse?  If this is the case, you need to inform CPS, that they are actually endangering the children by putting them right back into direct contact with the one who abused them in the first place.  That won't set well with a judge.  Gather your witness's that have seen the abuse or can testify as such.  If your Pastor will do it, have him write a letter to the CPS referring to you as a "safe" place for the children.

How (even if her parents were not violent, child molesters) is this a safe place for them when the mother LIVES there? Who is going to make sure she isn't alone with them? I mean, my head hurts trying to comprehend the nonsense here!

Everything was all set, I was going to meet the case worker, have my home evaluated and BAM! All the sudden my whole side of the family is in question for abuse and they place the kids in the same home as the person they are trying to protect the children from?

No Sherene, it doesn't make sense.  The system does NOT work.  I wonder if the Case Worker is aware of the contact that will be eminent because the children are basically right back where they are not suppose to be? There seems to be a communication break-down.  No Case Worker would move the children from one house to another, if the person in question of the abuse.....can still gain access to the children.

Somethings not adding up.  Not adding up at all.  Praying right now for the situation.

   My prayers are with you as well, Sherna.  That's a hard situation, and like Annella, spoke of, it does seem rather strange that they would put the children right back in with the one hurting them.  Do you think the case worker knows the mother is living in that same house with her parents where the children have been put? I can't see where they would allow that if they knew.  However, I do know our system is not all with it, and that's a real shame.  It's the children who suffer from the system's mistakes, oversights, and turned heads.  Please keep us posted.

You're right, it is sickening.  Sometimes it makes a person wonder if the people who are supposedly "taking care" of situations like these really care about the people they are supposed to help.

This makes me very sad and angry.  I can't imagine being cruel to a child.   Maybe if you went to the media with this story something would be done?  CPS seems to be motivated to actually do their jobs when they're on the news for being useless morons.

The system we have with the Department of Children Services here in Tennessee is a broken down, and the abuser has to take  a few classes and almost usually prevails.  I am going through this with my 10 year old granddaughter who was beaten up by her father.  The cycle never stops in this case in a small town.  Money talks and bs walks...so sad but true in our instance. She was even coached by other enabling paternal family members to renig on the first report she made to the police that she was hit by an axe handle.

I don't know if this will help or not but I have worked in Daycare and had to work with what we DCF Department of Child and Family.  We would see children that should be with their parents and we it was a mess.  But one thing I did learn that i you contact the courts in your area you can get a lawyer appointed to the children they don't work for you or the family they only work  or the children you can find them for free or the court can give them one.  But if you can find someone that with work for them only the judge and the case workers seem to listen more to what is going on.  Because it takes the emotion part out of the equations.  Not that I think the emotion part is not important but if the lawyer can walking in with a layed out plan it sometimes works better.  I know when we were dealing with families it seemed with the children with the appointed attny seemed to be in better places.  Because the one thing to remember is to do what is best for the children.  They need the help.  I hope things get better for you.  It can be so hard to watch and feel like you are going crazy.

That's the first breath of fresh air I've read about this disheartening issue.  I always said in our case that our granddaughter needs to be removed from that environment and placed in a neutral environment.  If the courts would have appointed a lawyer to represent her interests and relay all the facts to the judge, it would be better. Her father's girlfriend has custody of her and she lied to authorities and said they were married. But DCS overlooked that. Now she's back together with the father who lives less than half a mile from where she stays at her enabling grandparents who have no rights in Tennessee, but are paying the tab on their abusive son's assault charges on their own granddaughter. They live out in the boondocks and you don't think they are in contact with one another? Yah, right! Birds of a feather flock together.  Thanks for letting me vent everyone.
