SAVING $$$ ON YOUR HEATING/ ELECTRIC BILL
« on: November 12, 2010, 06:27:53 pm »
I'm trying to save on my electric bill and I saw this advertisement for those amish heaters that look like fireplaces on wheels that you can roll to any room.  They claim that you can save money on your electric bill using these fireplace heaters.  Has anyone tried them and does it actually work and did you save money???

A family member of mine has a of those types of heaters and it works remarkably well. I would def say to get one because they help you save so much on your heating bill. I live in an apartment and use a water radiator I purchased from Wally World for 37 dollars and it works well in my sons room. We get free heat but the living room gets super hot before the bed rooms. I put that in his room on the chilly nights and it is cozy in no-time. But if you have a house then you'd better off with a bigger heater like one of the Amish ones.

Oh wow I didn't even think about doing that! That's a great idea too and I bet that would work really well in open spaces.

i'm sure they work well...you just have to be willing to give them time...it could take several years to see the full benefits....often times people
just don't have the patience to wait that long......

I have never used a fireplace heater before. a friend of mine has one and he says that it saves him money. I know I am coming up with many ways to save on my electric bill.

I have a super wood stove, but I have an upstairs too. That heat rises and goes even to the last bedroom on the end and then you have to open the window to get some cool air in there. But my bedroom right off the room with the heater doesn't get much, so I did the hanging the fan thing and it brings that heat right in there.!

I bought one of the heaters you are talking about but it is not the fireplace verison.  It works real good.  I shut off the bedrooms I don't use and that way I don't have to heat the whole house.  In this day and time we have to cut corners where ever we can.   My son and his wife have a wood stove to heat with.  All they have to do is cut wood and theirs friends has always let them have trees that have blown down or have had cut down.

ALSO TRY GOING THROUGH YOUR HOME AND CAULKING ALL CRACKS; ESPECIALLY AROUND THE WINDDOWS AND DOORS. USING THE PLASTIC WINDOW COVERING ALSO HELPS. I HAVE MANAGE TO KEEP MY HEATING BILL DOWN TO AROUND $67 TO $77 DOLLARS A MONTH. ALSO TRY TO WITHOUT HEAT WHILE YOU ARE SLEEPING  USE THOSE EXTRA BLANKS GRANDMA GAVE YOU!

I saw these as well and wondered if they really work as well. Anything to get my heating bill lowered would be great.

I have never used a fireplace heater. We unplug as many things as we can when we are not using them. It is helping some.

We have a two story place...have a heater, it gets too expensive! To save we just turn it off at nite and make sure we have blankets!!!   Thanks for the advise I need to purchase one of the small heaters.

For me, the heating is not the problem, I live in Florida, the AC is what kills.  The nice thing about when it is cold, you can always put more clothes on and turn the heat lower.  That doesn't work so well when it is hot out, turn the air down and take off layers, but there are only so many layers you can remove.  1 thing to remember for cutting energy usage, clean your dryer lint trap.  Its crazy how much quicker your clothes dry when the trap is clean.
