Julie,

I had a pretty good time yesterday.  On the way to my friends house I was able to stop at several yard sales.  My favorite.  We got in her pool and basically I exercised the entire time.  I was so worn out last night.

Two unfortunates hit me though.  My son was behaving badly last night and kept me awake until after 2:30.  I did get a bit of sleep from about 10-Midnight then he finally calmed down at 2:30 and went back to sleep.  I was supposed to get up at 4:30 and head home but I didn't wake up until 5:45 and the SD is supposed to leave for work at 6 and I was 45 minutes away.  I'm not sure what happened...haven't looked at the alarm on my cell phone...so don't know if I didn't hear the alarm or if it was set for the wrong day but I had it set for 4:30 without a doubt.  I felt so bad.  REALLY bad.

I'm going to try to get in the pool each day and will take the baby in with me today.  Her dad might be picking her up but not for sure.

I'm glad people in the community are coming to the rescue of your friends.  Have you heard about Free Cycle?  You can get most anything you need on there and if you let people know it's because the family was burned out I think people would be even more generous.

Sorry your hubby is still having a problem.  Tell him to take lots of pain meds and prop his feet up and whine a lot.  That usually helps me.

We so need rain too but it's looking like we are going to get that hot spell before any rain.  Let's do the rain dance again.  It seemed to work the last time.

Kim,

I'm glad you got to do several things you wanted to do and enjoy doing.  Exercising in water is great, but like you said, tiring!  That's one of the therapies my daughter uses for her arthritis.

I'm sorry to hear about your son.  I hope he's okay.  Maybe it was a good thing you were there.  Just unfortunate your alarm not working at the right time.

It seems I've heard about Free Cycle.  It may have been you who mentioned it at one time.  I'll look it up, though.  Anything that helps our friends during this time is worth checking out.  Thanks!

Hubby is doing much better today.  Still a little sore in the mouth, but better.  No pain pills until tonight.  He's enjoying his IPad tonight.

Okay, I agree, let's do the rain dance again!  It worked for me, so now it's time to work for you!!  It was only in the upper 80s today with a nice breeze.  I went out early and fed the birds and watched them for awhile.  I also left more food out hopefully to still entice our neighbor's cat over.  I found a couple of fur hairs in and on the food bowl that show the colors of her fur (she's a calico) so at least we know she's okay and still hiding out.

I feel so bad for you and your nose!  I saw your dear nose on FB!  That was quite a bee sting you got!  I sure hope it gets better for you.  You may have some explaining to do at school tomorrow!  Besides putting something on it did you take any Benadryl or something?

I put my insomnia to work last night (or should I say the wee hours of this morning!)  I cleaned the bathrooms - and I hate cleaning them.  But at least I did something instead of tossing and turning.  Sometimes it's like my sleep meds don't always work (maybe they conflict with my other meds?) and then I'm wide awake.  I had a spot of energy so I took advantage of it!

Hope you have a good day tomorrow (actually today when you read this.)  Talk again later!

Bee sting
« Reply #471 on: July 18, 2011, 02:41:12 am »
I woke up this morning thinking I had a film over my eyes.  I tried to rub it out, and my eyes and whole area around them are very itchy, but it wasn't budging.  I went to the mirror and about jumped out of my skin when I saw myself.  Both eyes are badly swollen but my right eye is the worse.  I can't see out of it too well so I think going to school today is out of the question.  I'm putting a cold rag on it now and have taken allergy medicine so if I can get the swelling down I might go in later.

I sprayed where those bees are going in, beside the front door frame, but they were still busy an hour later.  The spray didn't seem to phase them.  They are chewing through the wood around the frame and getting in behind the bricks.  Not sure what kind of bee they would be...no pun intended.  Hornets?

I didn't get the baby in the pool.  She refused to go, but I did get in for a while and did some exercise and cleaning.

Glad hubby is better.  Can't believe that cat is still on the run.  Imsomnia can be bad but at least you were more active during the cooler part of the day.  Gotta take those energy bursts as they occur!  If it weren't for them there are many things I would never get accomplished.

We seem to have some visitors that don't know whether to stay or go or know what to write!  I do hope some of the others who have posted in here come back and join in some more.

I am so sorry for your "bee" situation.  I hope the allergy medicine helped.  Do you think you may have to see the doc?  I know how hard that is, though, when hurting for money.  Anyway, I sure hope it's better tomorrow.  I asked my hubby about the ones chewing through the frame.  He said someone told him that carpenter bees can do that and that they actually look a bit like wasps.  There was another kind someone told him but he doesn't remember what that kind of bee was.  I hope you can get rid of them.

Our neighbors were in and out today.  They washed a load of clothes.  He worked on some things in his garage (his way of coping.) They have an insurance person meeting them here tomorrow.  She was working on listing everything they could think of that was lost in the fire for that. I just try to have the coffee always going (for her) and the iced tea made (for him and for hubby.)  They have to also get the permit for demolition and cleaning the home off the property.  Everyday there is something going on or someone to meet.  I'm just glad we can help by letting them come in and out and do whatever needs to be done.

Here they are going through this, and then they surprised me today.  They had to go meet with someone and then go to the hardward store.  When they got back they brought a bag of birdseed with them for me!  My birds were down to the last little bit and they wanted to do that.  I tried to pay them for it but they wouldn't let me.  They said it made them feel like they were able to help us in their own way in return for us helping them.

Let me know how you're doing.  That's a horrible way to feel with that face sting.  Talk to you later!!

Tuesday's missive

G'morning Julie (and any random visitors),

My eyes are still swollen and the bridge of my nose, inside of my eyes and all around the eye area is very itchy.  I've slept with frozen peas on my face but still it seems when I lay down the swelling gets worse.  I said if I wasn't better today I would try to see a doctor but won't have enough money in the bank until my UC clears this afternoon, usually late afternoon.  I feel well enough to go to school I suppose but I look like a monster and I need to keep ice on this so think I'm taking the day off.  I could change my mind in the next two hours though.   ???

It's nice you are able to help, in any little way, with the neighbors.  An ear to listen, words of encouragement, hugs, coffee and a landing spot is priceless with what they are going through.  That was a nice gesture to purchase you some bird food too.  I too feed the birds and love to sit and watch them so having a bag of food is important to me.  It's often one of the things I think about in my gratitude daily list...having the money to keep feeding the birds.  However, those pesky bees are on my front porch and I can't sit out there now.

I'm not sure what the bees are.  They aren't the carpenter bees though.  I've had those before and they are larger, have a dark butt on them and typically don't sting.  These bees look like hornets but they are drilling through the wood.  I've googled trying to find them but keep coming up with the typical carpenter bee pictures.

Our rain dance yesterday worked.  It was a pretty good one but still isn't the soaker I'm looking for.  Shall we dance again today?

Kim,

I'm feeling bad for you with your face.  I really hope you can get to the doc if you get your money.  It almost sounds like you may or could need antibiotics.  I'm sure it's not helping to get your schoolwork done.  I hope this program is flexible - I really don't know how that would work with having to miss days. No one ever knows when something like this will happen to change things.  Even like the neighbor's fire.  They are giving her a week and a half off and even took up donations for her.  She works for Kroger.  Here's hoping you feel better quick.

The kind of bee you are trying to figure out may be the very one that someone was telling my hubby about.  It was some that were apparently the same in Alabama where this person lived.  For the life of him, he can't remember what the man called them.

I'm glad the rain dance helped your way some this time.  Maybe this rain dance will help us both?  The clouds are building but that doesn't mean anything here, lately.

The insurance man is meeting with our neighbors even as I'm writing this.  Having to list everything under the different categories, trying to remember everything she can, has been very time consuming.  Maybe this afternoon, when the man is gone, she can try to relax a little bit.

Back to the bees, I'm sure that makes you feel leery about taking the baby out that way.  The bees sound like they are not going to be held back from what they are trying to do, and lo and behold, to anyone who gets in their way.

I'll let you go for now.  It can't be easy to read and type right now.  I think I'll try to see if I can find out more about those bees.  Hope you can get some better rest tonight without the swelling.

Later, my friend,

Julie  :)

Bees and swelling
« Reply #475 on: July 20, 2011, 02:24:33 am »
Julie,

I still haven't figured out what the bees are, even after scanning the internet.  There is less activity but I'm going to continue spraying daily.  The doorframe is so badly chewed that Bob is going to have to either plug the holes or replace the entire frame.  Once I get them killed maybe I can put one in a jar and take it somewhere to be identified.

The swelling is down on my left eye more than the right but still there.  My sinuses were pretty stuffed last night but that's not saying much as I have problems quite often anyhow.  I had to sleep on my left side all night because I couldn't breath out of my right nostril if I laid that way.  When I roll to the left I can actually feel the drainage and breath.  Even though I'm laying on my left side it is still the right eye that is more swollen.  Makes no sense to me.  You'd think it would be the opposite.

I can't imagine having to list everything being lost from a home after a fire and then there are all those things that have little to no monetary value but mean the world to you.  Were they able to salvage their family pictures or bibles?  I personally have a bible that belonged to my dad's grandmother (my gg grandmother).  She was born in 1871 and started the entries after her marriage.  It would mean little to anyone but me.  That being said I really should find a fireproof box for the bible.  It's quite large though so encasing it would be expensive.

I once had to list everything in my freezer because it failed and I had purchased a warranty on it.  Yet there was a maximum they would pay which didn't cover the costs entirely.  How can they repay for the time it took you put up the strawberry jam!

The weather is calling for storms here Friday through Tuesday.  I'm torn between wanting a soaker and wanting to go kayaking with a friend over the weekend!  Oh well we take what we get don't we?

Later my friend.

Kim,

Wow, those bees or whatever they are, have really done a job on the door frame.  Those are some mean bees, for sure.  I'm glad you are starting to improve but it sounds like you've still got a ways to go yet.  Did you go back to school today?  I can imagine what they were thinking when they saw you, wondering what in the world...!

The insurance people met with the neighbors yesterday.  Everthing was declared a total loss.  They lost pictures, Bibles, family treasures, along with everything else.  They were given an amount to put towards a new home so they went looking yesterday.  The insurance company even gave them $250 for each dog (3.) She's coming over this morning so I guess I'll find out if they saw something they liked.

I remember back before I was married I had taken a lot of my clothes to a cleaner I had been using for quite awhile.  I worked at State Farm where you had to dress up more.  This one particular time, the cleaner place caught on fire.  Of course all my clothes were burnt.  I remember having to try and list every single thing along with the value of them.  I had bought all my clothes from May Cohen's and thankfully, I could replace several outfits afterward what amount I was given.  I hated having to list everything with a value.

Rain is definitely needed, but kayaking sounds like a lot more fun!!  I've never done it but maybe would like to tentatively try it!

I have to go down for closing on my mom's house Friday.  At least I'll be out from under the burden of the payments.  People are already working on repairing the damages made by DIL and will continue to fix it up to re-sell through my BIL.  He and my MIL have been wonderful doing what they are doing to help me out of this situation.  And when it does sell, they are still splitting some of the profit with me.

Hope school is going okay for you and that you are having some peaceful evenings.  Sleep well, tonight!

TTYL,

Julie  :)

Julie,

I never did miss any school because of the bee sting.  I have collected one of the bees and I'm going to take it to school and possibly a pest control place to find out what type of bee it is.  The one I have is really small and not as yellow was I thought it would be.  It has darker black stripes on it.  Maybe I'm just allergic far more than I ever realized.  I developed an allergy to shellfish several years ago that I had never dealt with before and am really allergic to the fall weather anymore in ways I never suffered when I was younger.  Who knows.

I'm glad you are getting things settled with the house.  Another source of nagging consternation will be off of your plate once that is accomplished.

No there isn't any such thing as a relaxing evening anymore.  If I didn't have to work or go to school I might be better equipped for what I'm dealing with now but going to school is actually worse than working.  You are there all day then come home to, sometimes long hours, of study.  Not to mention all the emotional things I'm going through.

It is unbearably hot and humid here today.  Even though I watered all of the outdoor plants last night everything is wilted tonight.  I'll have to wait until sundown to water and I have a bunch of studying/homework to do.  I missed another counseling appointment.  I swear I can't keep up with things around here!  I promised to babysit last night thinking my appointment was tonight.  I didn't realize until this morning that my appointment was yesterday.  They were real reluctant to make me another appointment, tomorrow, and said if I miss another one they will put me in a program called Choices.  I swear I'm only missing because I have too much going on in my life and am possibly just distracted, tired and not as organized as I should be...If people would quit depending on me so much and allow me my own time I'd do better!

I keep blaming myself though because I was the one to suggest that she move in with us so we could help her out.  I envisioned a much easier transition than this has turned out to be.

You definitely have more on your plate than you should have.  It seems like it's when you are able to leave for a day (going to your friend's, kayaking, etc.) that you actually seem to relax a little, let your guard down, and enjoy yourself a little.  I think trying to go to school right now has been difficult because of the other things going on in your life.  It makes it too hard to focus and bury yourself in your studies.  I applaud you, because you have hung in there, and you've pushed right on, no matter what.  I just wish you didn't have the other stuff weighing you down.  You will come out ahead and on top before you know it.

It's awfully hot and humid here, too.  I went on an errand earlier with hubby - ugh.  I'm pre-treating with my inhaler before I leave in a little bit for church.  I have to work with my youth choir tonight on a new program, and then take notes in church, afterward, for our business meeting.  I'm the "secretary" for the meetings.

Hope you are able to get some studies in tonight.  Sorry about the counseling appt. mix-up.  Believe me, I understand what you are thinking.  I hope the counselor knows you aren't avoiding those appointments but have too much on your plate.  Do they give reminder phone calls like maybe a day or two before your appointment?  What is Choices compared to what you are doing now?

Talk to you soon! Hang in there, Kim!

Julie,

Yeah I certainly didn't mean to miss any of the appointments.  I didn't want to write them on the calendar because I didn't want the SD to see them and question what was going on so that was why I missed one of them.  The other one was a mix up because Bob and I went away over the 4th and I got my days mixed up.  We were gone Monday and Tuesday (but it felt like Saturday and Sunday).  On Wednesday, when we were getting back in the swing of things I kept thinking it was Monday again and missed an appointment.  They used to call to confirm the appointments but the last two weeks I haven't received the calls....or if they did come in "someone" is answering the phone and responding to them but not telling me they came in.  (There is no communication from this girl at all unless you pry it out of her.)

Twice now though I have been asked to babysit, have said yes and then realized later that I had an appointment.  Oh well I know that Carol (my therapist) will understand but she'll scold me into using a pocket calendar.  Guess I'll have to cave on that one.  I do need to get more organized with my paperwork...I"ll be the first to admit that...there is just so darn much of it!   I think old age plays a bit into this forgetfulness too.   :crybaby2: :BangHead: :o
