Baby Advice
« on: January 16, 2011, 09:34:39 am »
There are quite a few women on here that are pregnant and seek advice from time to time. Do you have a random piece of advice that you wish someone would have told you sooner?

My first was born last year and we were having issues with his diaper leaking and I mentioned this to a visiting friend. Her boys are older and she said it's hard to remember but I think it means you need to put him in bigger diapers. We had thought the entire time that maybe the newborn diapers were a little too big for him and that is why he leaked. Moved to size 1's and BAM problem fixed.

I figured out that if a baby has a diaper rash, put the rash ointment on it then cover it with Vaseline over night and Bam it'll be gone.

Mom take good care of you and your baby. Keep your baby clean and dry...and you will see a happy baby.

Enjoy it while you can.

I am a big big believer in naked time for babies.  One of the best things to do to prevent diaper rash.  We have an ottoman that we would put a spare changing pad on and then put a fluffy blanket over it, then we would give our daughter 15-30 minutes of naked time each night.  She has had only two diaper rashes, and those were due to allergies.  I also am a big fan of a&d ointment before bed and nothing but a dry diaper and dry bum during the day.

I wish my 7yr old daughter back to be a baby again and to have one more. Well, the best advice I could tell you is that spent every minute as precious moment because there will be a time you'll miss them being a baby. Just don't get tired and always remember your doing it for love; you'll see it worth everything.

Well it has been a long time for me, my babies have babies that have babies. So I am blessed in that sense. I had 5 children in 8 years. my doctor said I could have a child every time my husband hung his pants on my bed?? what ever that means. this was in the 50's, so we didn't have all the helps that are offered today and I suppose I am very glad I have everyone of mine. with 4 boys & 1 girl - all I can say is love them. hug them as often as you can. they are like little sponges while they are small, make sure what they sponge up is only good. that they know what "NO" means when they are small, they will remember as they get older. They learn easily small, when they get older they won't listen unless they are taught to listen when they are small. Just love them, and always let them know you love them what ever the situation.
I got a couple of divorces, I always set me children down and told them I was getting a divorce and we would go thru some tough roads, but that they should never forget they are first in my heart and we would stay together. They may be small, but they know the language of love.

In Brazil we barely ever use baby wipes.. wet cotton *bleep* are better for the skin and after every stool I put her under the sink.

For the first few days when baby has "tar poop" put olive oil on his bum and it when it's time for a change it's not a big ordeal!

For me: I wish people would not have been so negative about child birth. everyone made it seem like the worst pain in the world. I dont think it was all that bad. No pain meds althou I did have the epi because i tend to pass out from pain and I am a baby when it comes to pain but i barely made noise when in labor.
