You might as well pick up a magic 8 ball and work with that instead!!! HA!

If something gives comfort to other people, what's wrong with it? Ridiculing it only makes you look small and petty.

Because prayer won't fix anything.  Action will.

And tzs wasn't ridiculing anyone.  She was ridiculing a ridiculous practice.

Soooooo, let me get this straight......Is GOD INSIDE the magic 8 ball, or is it a Genie In-The-Lamp kind of thing????? :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

You han have hope without having faith in God, my friends! Prayer is just another catalyst to keep you believing-YOU should be your own catalyst and believe in yourself!!!! And please don't say that prayers helped you get something accomplished in your life, YOU DID IT ON YOUR OWN. All I am saying is people need to start giving themselves some personal credit for overcoming adversities and such, and stop using the always handy-dandy faith in god and prayer speech.

You know, the speech that always starts off as "I would like to first give thanks to blaaah blaaah bleebiddy blaah blaaah!" which I cannot stand to hear anymore!!

GIVE YOURSELF SOME CREDIT PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!
....... your faith and religion might as well be some kind of a glory-hog!!!

.......you know, since it gets all of the credit for everything that is good in your life!........

@tzs: Well said!  I think most people just have a "oh, pity me" complex!

They are powerful for the person praying.  As to whether they contribute to miracles...believing is seeing, IMO.  I don't knock it, because believing is seeing is what lead me to Judaism.  I saw its power once I believed.  As for praying, I wouldn't knock someone whether they do or they don't.  What matters more to me is not the prayer, but what the prayer leads the person to do.

Sheryl-- I suggest you separate your post into paragraphs. It's hard for someone to read that massive wall of text.

Its just like horoscopes. When they are wrong, people ignore them. When they are right, people praise them as supernatural. If I pray that it will rain tomorrow and it does indeed rain, that doesn't mean the rain is the result of my prayer. It would have rained regardless of my prayer.

The power of prayer is greatly underestimated in our country.  God is still in control contrary to man's belief.  The best comfort comes from a personal conversation with the Lord.

I agree with you 100%... personal conversation with ABBA is priceless.
