Teacher dating a pupil.
« on: May 04, 2011, 03:04:47 pm »
My cousin is 18 and in high school. He just informed me that he is secretly dating a teacher. Even though he is legal wont the teacher get in trouble and worst lose her job if caught?

Yes the teacher will lose her job. Atleast he or she would Where I live because I would go off about it. But With him being 18 I don't know if the law would do anything.

Law won't do anything, but the school district will not be happy to hear that. Definite suspension time, especially if that teacher is directly related to your cousin in terms of either teaching him or being involved grading any tests or papers. Possible termination and loss of license for the teacher as well.

Last I knew, it was unethical and immoral for students & teachers (of any age) to be involved in an intimate relationship. If you were at different schools, it might be different. Dunno for sure. I believe it's also likely that the teacher would get into some trouble that may result in termination, & therefore jeopardizing any potential teaching jobs at another institute of education. The least they could do is wait for him to graduate and leave the school, that way they'd both be in the clear.

The law might not intervene because the student is of legal age, but that is a serious breach of ethics when a teacher dates a student. I would be shocked if the teacher didn't lose her job over that. I agree that the teacher and student could have at least waited until after the term if they wanted to date. Then it wouldn't be such a huge conflict of interest.

first, how old is the teacher? also, it won't neccesarily be a legal issue, but an ethical one.

I really think that is sad. She should be able to lead by example.

This teacher is in a position of trust, whether directly working with the student or not.  The teacher is privy to information about the child. An eighteen year old isn't allowed to drink legally, I don't think they should be allowed to join the military service until they are twenty one years of age and I think that, if they are attracted to each other, they can wait until the student is done with High School.

It is definitely wrong.  She is an authoritive figure.  If she had any intellegence, she would have waited until he graduated before beginning a relationship.  Teenage boy like to brag about their conquests...she'll probably be losing her teaching certificate soon.
Have a wonderful day!

maybe the student is trying to show the teach what he has learned, ie the student becomes the teach.

A teacher that dates children 19 or younger while in K through 12 are just plain out being disrespectful to both the students, their families and the community they work in.

I live in a small community and it happened here a while back. It was a male teacher, married, wife pregnant with first child. He worked at the highschool, she worked at the Elementary school. She didn't have a clue.

He had dated a few diferent girls before he was caught. After he was proven guilty, he was fired and it went on his permanent record so it will be hard for him to find another school that will hire him. Since the girls were 18, no charges were filed in court against him. He is not even allowed on any of our county schools property. He is working again but not around children. He is working in a factory.

I am sorry but to me this is a sensitive subject. To me it doesn't matter how old the teacher is or anything else.
I send my children to school for an education so that they can become upstanding hard working citizens not for a teacher to teach my child about relationships or sex education up close and personal. Children need to experiece life before they settle down. A teacher has had some life experiences through college, ect. Let our children have life  experiences outside higschool to.

The teacher would most likely lose their job, or at least be suspended if they are caught.  As others have mentioned, a teacher has a position of authority over all students in a school, not just the ones they have in classes.  It's always questionable (ethically) when someone in a position of authority has some type of relationship (other than the required relationship) with one of the people whom they have authority over.

It's the same with workplaces as well.  People would then start to wonder if any actions the person of authority makes are biased.

Where I live you can not date a student in your school regardless of being of legal age.  If he was 18 and graduated that would be another tune.  Teacher would get suspended for sure and possibly fired.  :P

Eww...what the hell is wrong with these (female) teachers?...If I had a son and found out he was dating a teacher...I would have to whip her a--! I don't care if he's "of age", she's much older and have no business messing with him...How do these twisted relationships get started anyway? No wonder why kids aren't learning in school, too many cougar whores flirting with boys. (Some people wont see a problem with this cause it evolves little boys instead of little girls). I'll tell ya, schools are dangerous these days...You have to worry about your kids getting bullied, shot (in extreme case), hanging with the wrong crowd, drugs, drinking and now female pedophiles.  :angry7:
