Should Anthony Wiener resign? Why or why not?

I have been asking myself the same question?  I do not have an answer.  I just don't know.  Did he do anything illegal?  Immoral?  Unethical?  I don't know.  He sent an erotic picture of himself to someone else.  it should have been between himself and the other person but he forgot to send it through private message and accidentally tweeted it for the whole world to see.  For him and family, it is very embarrassing and humiliating.  I would not be able to show my face in public.  But he sent it to another adult who was ok with receiving it.  No one receiving his erotic pictures have filed complaints.  Nevertheless, he is married and a member of congress -- an elected official.  His colleagues and peers are asking him to resign.  What about his constituents --  the people who voted for him and who he represents?

The general consensus is that he should probably resign, but I wonder how many other people with political power have done uncouth things and just never got caught!

Does this episode surprise you?  Not me.  Our nation's leaders should be role models for Americans.  Unfortunately, this type of action seems to be more common place now.  Our country is rapidly becoming the modern day equivelant of Sodom and Gomorrah.

I wonder how his family ended up with the surname of Weiner???  Inherited traits??

...........i dont think what party he is has anything to do with it, look at Arnold, he just hid it for 13 years.  I am sure that there are more kids and that we have not heard the last of either case.

I would like to see him resign, but I doubt he will.  His behavior is reprehensible and disgusting and definitely not a role model that I would hope would be elected to congress.  However, it's the lying to hide his perverted behavior that I have the most trouble with.  He went to extreme measures to hide his behavior and point the finger of blame in other directions.  I totally understand he was ashamed, desperate, and panicked and wanted to protect himself and those closest to him.  However, that is not the role model I want in an elected official.  I want someone in there that can rise above the situation, tell the truth, and take full responsibility without trying to cover it up first most.  Second most, I would prefer and hope my elected officials to exhibit strong moral values in their personal, private life as well.  This incident with Mr. Wiener is all about character and trust and I could certainly never vote for him and I think he should resign.

Prtee33 - I think you may have misunderstood what mgint was trying to say.  

Both parties have individuals that are involved in sex scandals.  It is sad for each party.  However, when a scandal surfaces in the republican party, that individual usually resigns almost immediately.  There is much pressure from the political party to do so.  A recent example is Congressman Lee who resigned within hours of a shirtless picture that was exposed on the internet.  Congressman Wiener has refused to resign.  I do not believe the pressure to resign due to scandalous behavior is as great in the democratic party compared to the pressure to resign found in the republican party when similar scandalous behavior occurs among one of its members.  

Both parties sadly have individuals that fail in the moral department, it's how it's handled that is different.
