Well, that's $1600 a month, so after the bills, you'll have a whole $100 left over! (Just kidding!)
Actually, that's more than I make per week, unless I get a lot of overtime, which hasn't been happening lately. But I don't have any kids, so I can make ends meet. Maybe you can try to cut down on the bills, by eliminating anything that's not strictly necessary? Or look for a part time job? There's a really good book, "Total Money Makeover," by Dave Ramsey, that can help you get out of debt and into wealth on you current income. I highly recommend it, but you have to be really focused for his plan to work. I started it, but it's taking me a long time, because I'm not really that intense and focused on money-making. But Dave Ramsey has helped to turn tons of families lives around.

A small fortune?  What part of the country are you living in?

This amount is a small fortune in the US nowadays. I wish I was making 400/wk right now! Don't aim your guns at Amy if you want to complain. Aim them at your congressman or the federal government or something around those lines. I think your standards are set a bit too high-- it's making you look like a spoiled whiny American.

$400 is decent money but not that great.  You can be making a lot more than that.  That averages out to be $10 an hour.

Maybe you should go back to school to gain more skills in order to get a better job and make more money Nisha. I can tell just from reading your posts and looking at your grammar and spelling you are not very educated.

Perhaps you should have made sure you were better off financially before you had 3 kids. Why are your bills so high? Are you paying for internet service? You don't need it to survive. You can cut a cost right there.

$400 a week to some is a fortune. Ask the homeless guy on the corner or the father who was laid off his job and now can't support his family and about to lose their home. It's not Amy's fault that you are struggling. Quit throwing her under the bus like you are in a half dozen of your posts.

To think, my financial situation where I believe $400 a week is a small fortune is so upsetting to Nisha that she created an entire topic about it...wow...

I must be pretty dern special.

FYI Nisha...I do live in America, or Turtle Island, and it is a great country.  I'm doing what I can to make ends meet, but my existence does not revolve around the green floating in and out of my bank account...maybe that's why I'm happy and you, Nisha, apparently are not, since my words seem to have upset you so.  Keep on keeping on...its no skin off my back.  I do bring home less than $400 a week for my family of three, I am the sole provider for my family, and we're making it.

Maybe instead of raging about my harmless comment you should take a look at your own expenses and see what you can do to make things easier on your family instead of asking your kids to work.  Just a suggestion...   :dontknow:

It seems to me, though, that the people who rage the most about government assistance/food stamps/etc are more than willing to accept it themselves... bit of a double standard, don't you think?

I too think that if you make 400 a week you are very fortunate because many families went from 2 incomes to none and to those that amount of cash is a small fortune I know that I would love to make that much but I don't.
Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.NEED Help? Check out my Beginners Guide pinned in the Support forum :)

nisha1010 instead of spending countless hours on here complaining, you could be doing tons of other things to earn more money. It's not just going to fall into your lap, no matter how long you wait for it to. $400 a week is enough for any sensible person/family to sustain on. Someone's a little greedy... Priorities.

I am always amazed at the nerve of some people and nisha, you just took the grand prize with this one.

1) We don't start mean threads about other members on here and NOT when it's about a longtime, well liked, and well respected member like amyrouse is.

2) You complained in another thread that "eating out 4 times a week is killing your budget". Even people who make good money do NOT find it necessary to eat out that much, so stop doing it.

3) You also wrote (in another thread) "Both my kids and I have been looking for a job for so long already but havent found anything.  I am collecting unemployment."
Okay, wait a minute here.....you are NOT even working, but again, you are eating out 4 times/week?! Guess what, that is pure laziness on your part because you can't tell me you don't have time to cook when you don't have a job!

4) If living in New York and having outrageous rent to pay is too much for your budget, move somewhere else! Thousands of people have had to relocate because the economy went down the drain. You aren't all that and you aren't 'special'.

5) You have NO idea what struggles amyrouse, or anyone else on here, has had to endure or that she and many others work their butts off just to make ends meet, so keep your misguided 'opinions' of her to yourself.

6) As others have said, $400/week is good money for many right now so be grateful you even get unemployment because a whole LOT of people don't!

If you think you can just walk up into FC and start blasting people and their replies to threads that YOU have started think again.......or stop posting.
You are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts.

I am quite satisfied with less than half that amount. Not by necessity but by choice. I bought and paid off my land and home on this amount. I turn down income generating opportunities regularly simply because I recognize the difference in wants and needs. My wants is to live simply and enjoy my time doing what matters to me and not supporting the capitalist machine no more then I absolutely have to.

Much of my earlier years I made around 4 times that amount and was miserable. As someone else said, "priorities". I sometimes have to just shake my head when I see what most folks consider, necessities.

Thumbs up to this! We were in Boston, lost both our jobs, and there wasn't a job to be found in that area. We're making much much less than we were before the economy tanked, but we're getting twice the living space for half the cost where we are now. Everything is so much cheaper and it's a less hectic pace of life.

To add an interesting graphic to what jordandog was referring to, check this link from Forbes to see migration by counties in 2008. Now this isn't just people effected by the economy, it also includes retirement and other moves, but it's still very telling to see the migration away from expensive areas like New York.

$400 a week?  Can you float me a loan?  I'll send you my address!  OK, bad joke.  I don't make a lot either, but I'm being pretty lazy right now.  I've decided money is not the most important thing in the world to me.  As long as I have enough to put a roof over my head, fill my belly up, pay my bills and take care of those I need to support, I'm happy.  Good luck with your future income.... hope it's looking up.
