what happened to good music on the raido?
« on: July 14, 2011, 11:30:57 am »
Sometimes I get so annoyed with music that I just don’t want to listen to the radio.  I mean in the pop/hot hits music it’s all club music where people like Kesha who can’t sing make huge hits because they know a great club sound when they hear it.  Country music is all pop sound and the only ‘true’ country songs are the ones when someone’s singin’ about a farm or drinking.  Seriously, what happened to all the good music?  Thank god there’s Katy Perry and George Strait.  I don’t know, does Madonna still sing?

I do not use the radio anymore. Google: YouTube. Use YouTube: Enter the name of your favorite singer or song. Another choice is go to your TV and look for musical channels. You will also find your favorite songs there. Now, enjoy your music!

Terrestrial radio is dying a slow death.  It amazes me how horrible it has gotten in the past 10 years or so.  I don't even listen to it anymore.  We went to satellite with SiriusXM a few years ago and haven't looked back.  It's hard pressed not to find something good on the 69 available commercial free music channels.  We'll also occasionally stream Slacker on my wife's BlackBerry.  YouTube is great if you are sitting at the computer and want to hear a specific song or two or three.

There are internet radio stations that broadcast live that do not play top billboard hits.

All the "good" music died in the 1980's...LOL, that is what I grew up to.

Could be that the artists have run out of subjects to write into their songs or original scales? I noticed that certain genres can't make it unless they use profanity, the word "shorty" or the "n" word...always pushing the limit the limits of sensibility.  It could also be the public that they cater to...from the standpoint of only needing lame music to listen to.  I live in Colorado, originally from Wisconsin, and wondered why pizza was awful and Pizza Hut would be rated as the people's choice until a major food distributor said in a newspaper article that restaurants were able to get away with serving sub-par cheese as the population didn't have good enough taste to know te difference.

I'm a hip hop head, but I barely listen to hip hop radio.  I prefer listening to mixtapes and music on websites.  As far as radio, I do listen to a little rock radio (DC 101 and 98 Rock in DC and Baltimore respectively).  College radio can be interesting though.  I listened to college radio when I was at Penn State.

Good music on the radio disappeared some time after good programming disappeared from television. I have barely listened to the radio in years. I listen to music on my computer, online, or my iPod. I very rarely even listen to the garbage they replaced Sirius with on my satellite provider. Pandora radio is really nice for online listening (and mobile).
