Flu Shots...Yea or Nay?

I got a Flu shot today during my doctors visit. ...

I get one every year, though I have been reading lately about those who swear that they are bad for you.

Sometimes I feel a little sick, but nothing like having the flu and sometimes I feel nothing at all..except the band aid on my arm in the shower because I forgot it was there....


So... Flu Shots.....Yea or Nay?

I have pretty bad allergies and my doctor always suggest that I get one. I got one for maybe 5 years straight and everytime I got one I would get the flu or fever or something along those lines. Prior to that I may have had the flu once when I was a little boy. Since I stopped getting the flu shot I have not had any flu like symptoms. Maybe it works for some people but it just made things worse for me.

I haven't before but I got one this year since I had pneumonuia last year and they said it was a good idea.

Not for me.  I prefer anti-viral herbs all year long...or...whenever I feel inspired to self prescribe.

Do you work in health care? My sister is convalescing in a nursing home and we aren't allowed/heavily recommended not  to visit her this week as they are having a flu epidemic..i,e,  everyone is sick.

When I worked for the State School we were forced to have all kinds of vaccines to 'protect' us. I got the HeptacB(sp?) series which, though  I've never had Hepatitis B, I now show to have Hepatitis B every time they do blood work....and...every time I have to go through the spiel...I've had the heptacB vaccine...yadayada...

I've got bad allergies too. When I was a boy I would wake up every morning and sneeze, literally, at least 13 times (I think my record was 15 times) in a row. My Gmom, who was from Finland, thought I was possessed.  I had to take Contac (dating myself here) and  always had a hanky in my pocket.

The only symptoms I have really experienced from the shot is a few aches and a low grade fever for a day.

I had bronchial pneumonia last year and thought it was the end...

I was pretty delirious...never have I experienced such pain..couldn't even take in a breath of air without it feeling like my ribs were breaking, so, yeah, I now proactively ask about the pneumonia shots.

I take herbs, vitamins and minerals. I think they help, though, there are some instances when I've played 'Dr Ron" and in a delirious haze will look up and see my mother..

"oh, mom, what are you doing here?"

"you're coming with me to the hospital"

"oh, ok.....but, I don't want them to keep me" (famous last words)

Exactly. I've even heard that there are some places where they are free. (what have you got to lose?)

Were you feeling any symptoms before the shot, and it helped make you feel better? or did you  go flu free for the season?

I have not gotten a flu shot and never intend to. However, from what I have seen, it doesn't seem to help most people. One lady I know took the flu shot and a couple years, she ended up in the hospital very sick. Listed with the flu shot are possible side effects of headache, fever, chills, etc. (I don't have the info in front of me). But the "side effects" are exactly what a flu is. I think it is just another way for pharmaceuticals to make money.
