I would prefer to have someone sit next to me and not in the back seat.  That way you can have a decent conversation without having
to talk loud(especially if they can't hear well).  My son(when he was going thru that "can't be seen with mom" stage) would sit in the back
seat when I would drive him to school.  It just feels weird to me.

Why would someone want to sit in the back when a front seat is open?  Unless they are riding with me, that is.....
Maybe someone was in the passenger's seat when they entered the car, that person got dropped off somewhere, and they don't want to move.

I have so many thoughts about this question and I enjoyed reading the other comments.  But you have really got my curiosity up!  What makes you ask the question?  What is the story?
I watched this clip from a comedy series,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1ps4EZz4B0

...and decided to ask about it here to see if people actually cared.

If you are driving your car with someone else coming along for a ride, do you let them to sit in the back while the passenger seat is empty? Do you make friends sitting in the back of your car move to the empty passenger seat?

I have so many thoughts about this question and I enjoyed reading the other comments.  But you have really got my curiosity up!  What makes you ask the question?  What is the story?  For me, I would hate a stranger "behind" me.  I would feel insecure.  My unusual mother in law, I think she read something once about safety.  So I endulge her.  (When they get over 90 or even 80, I think they "win" on pretty much whatever they want unless it is a safety issue, etc. )  Otherwise, always up front in the passenger seat. (of course, unless age, height safety issue with air bag, etc.)  Really look forward to hearing your story!

Hi I really like your comment especially about indulging us "older" folk it seems I have some thing to look forward to besides"old age" I get to be driven where ever and sit in the back Oh yea. made me laugh

LOL  Well all I can say is if you are with me Franlee46 then you get "your way" whatever it is!  LOL  I think you know I did not mean statement as anything disrespectful.  Quite the opposite.  I have a great love and respect for the generations ahead of me.  I figure with that many years of experience I should be listening, watching and learning instead of pushing my feelings and thoughts.  Bet I have more to learn from the generations before me than they have to learn from me!  And I always bow to their wishes when it comes to matters of comfort!  LOL

It sounds like this is not someone that you know, and you are just giving them a ride. I guess I would still let them sit in the front cause it is even worse to have them behind me lol...atleast if they are in the front I could see what they were doing...I always say no if someone asks for a ride that I have never seen before. I would offer money to take the bus!

I wouldn't care. wherever they wanna sit is up to them although having them in the passenger seat would be less awkward i think!
