Cat's Vision
« on: December 18, 2011, 05:55:04 pm »
Does anyone think cats can see things we cant see? I know bees can see ultraviolet rings around flowers... but I am just wondering what about cats. Just recently my cat was staring at the ceiling. It was a low ceiling with nothing on it. (I'm assuming that's what she was looking at.)  Anyways, I kept looking up to see if I could see anything. Their was nothing that I could see. Not even a gnat. So, it made me wonder what she was looking at if she was looking at anything. Does anyone else have cats or any other pet that just seem to stair into empty space?
Ps: no she is not blind she can see and move around the house just fine.

Animals see what they like and can see. It is just like humans: Some have better vision and sight than others. And, yes! they have discriminatory vision and sight! They decide what they like to see.

i definitely think cats (and pets in general) see things
much differently than we do. if you think about it,
a cat only sees at a level 6 or 7 inches off the ground,
while adults see things 5 or 6 feet above that.

i also think pets can sense things. not sure if i want
to say "ghosts" but i don't think dogs bark at empty
corners for nothing. same goes for cats who like to
stare at one spot. we'll never know  ;)
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

Don't worry, you're cat's normal. They do have better eye site than us humans. They can see fine in the daytime but what makes them different from us is that they have the ability to see in darkness. Why they go out at night to hunt. If a cat is staring at something for hours, they either can see it or they can hear whatever is there annoying him. My cats also do the same thing, they'd be staring at something for hours & just stare.LoL, they sometimes look like statues.

Yeah, maybe it was listening to something on the roof?
Or just thinking really hard about something and not actually looking at anything :P

True true, My other cat does get in a box and sits in it and just stares. I often wonder what he's thinking about when hes in his box. It's amazing sometimes.

Would be a much different perspective being 1/2 a foot above the ground and being in a world full of humans. Fun fact: Cats meow because humans communicate through sound, their meow is used to try and communicate with you, when near each other they tend to use facial and body communication like ear twitching, hair raising, ect.

lol that would explain why I never see cats mew at each other except for a few occasions on youtube. Hehe.  I love my kitties and they make me think and wonder sometimes whats going on with their mind.

I'm pretty sure my cat can see things I can't. Maybe it's better UV vision or something. I don't know but she definitely looks at things I can't see.  :cat:

I've always just passed it off as being some weird thing that cats do... My cat also just stares at walls for no apparent reason. Then again, they probably think we're weird too. "Why does the human always need to take off one set of 'man-skin', get his whole body wet (YUCK!), and then put on another set of 'man-skin' after waking up?! He should just walk around in his 'pink-skin' all the time."

They can see better in the dark. That's about it.
