Dog Nail Clippers
« on: January 18, 2012, 04:45:46 pm »
After having to really fight my puppy to keep him still while I do the nail trimming, I became frustrated. My friend had one that was electric and I used it. Sweet, just a little hesitation from my puppy, and then he was comfortable and I had all the nails ground down in no time. I learned this is a device you can get from As Seen On TV, so if one of the things I can order through FusonCash, for me this is a no brainer. Going to check out that offer now.  Keep on Trucking FusionCashers.

What a great suggestion!  Thanks for posting this topic. I use my Dremel on the the dog, but know that there are products like the Dremel that are sold specifically for dogs. I'll have to check it out on the FC site and see what the As Seen on TV has to offer.

I use a Pedipaws for my dog because she will run away if she even sees the nail clippers. She's starting to hate her nails being filed though so I might have to start giving her a sedative first

I finally caved in and take mine to the groomer every month or so, then I hold her (Chihuahua) around the tummy while the groomer does the dirty deed. No fuss, no muss and I'm out of there in 5 minutes for 8 bucks. Just a few more clicks online and I have that back.

LOL!! I think it sounds like you're avoiding the headaches of doing this for a pretty cheap price!!
I laughed last time we had our cat at the vet-people were bringing their (cranky) cats in for nail trims, and the vets/assistants were wearing those really heavy duty gloves (like kevlar strength lol!) that go all the way to the elbow.  :o

I clip my dog's nails myself and she screams... the most human sound I've ever heard a dog make... the entire time I'm clipping her nails. I think I'm just going to start taking her to the groomer to do it.

I was one of those people that had to trim animal's nails at the vet because people didn't want to put up with their own animals. I'll take trimming a cat's nail or a big dog over a chihuahua any day

LOL!! I would take BIG DOG over either of the others! (I'm sure that one of our cats grows 2-3 more sets of legs (with claws) anytime you do anything with his feet).

The vet had one particularly unhappy cat there who was in a carrier, in a closed room way at the end of the hallway (& all by itself), and the noises coming from that room sounded like something from a monster movie! LOL!
The poor pitbull (also in his carrier) in the waiting room looked terrified!!

Not much personal experience with chihuahuas, but I do know sometimes they can be "a whole lot of cranky packed in a little doggy".

I usually clip the nails of the dogs at my moms house.  Though the nail quick seems to be getting longer as the nail does to.  For the last 2 months I have to take them to the groomers to get it done as I do not want to cut down too far.  Once the quick is down to a good length I will be cutting them myself again.

I bought one those As Seen on TV from Bed, Bath and Beyond about a year ago and all my headaches are over, my dog is calm when my hubby does her neals.  But for all of those complainers about the nail clippers I have something that will bit everybody headaches and worries for it, and amazing that even in animals you can find it.

I was at my friend;s house yesterday and I kept hearing this noise, so I asked her is Ginger eating one of those chewing hid raw skin, whatever, bones?  and she said NO, that crazy dog is eating her NAILS, she trims them herself and saves me the trouble.  LOL  So there even dogs eat their nails

I've used nail clippers specifically tailored for dogs in the past, and if you don't get a really good pair it's not going to go so well. They won't do a good job of trimming the nails & the dog won't have a pleasant experience. We've tried a sander, where it just files down the nails & it didn't do a very good job either plus the little bit of noise it makes scared my dogs. We've ended up having to use nail clippers made for people & then sometimes take a normal file to smooth the edges if needed. My dogs have never enjoyed the nail trimming experience though.
