copying text in a post

How the heck do you do that?         Copy text from one persons post to yours so you cans make a reply to what they said. Thanks ahead of time for your answers!

Hi,
I think you select the entire post and then click copy.

Look in the upper-right hand corner of the post and click on "Quote". Their post will then show up in your new reply, but make sure you start your post after the last "quote" tag.

I don't know how it didn't work but here's what you do......

First, click on "Quote" in the upper right-hand corner of the person's post you want to respond to:


Then start your reply AFTER the last [/quote] tag like this:


If you write your reply somewhere within the quote tags of the post you're responding to, it will end up within the green box of THEIR post (see my next post for an example).

See, if I reply to you and insert my response within the "quote" tags, then my reply ends up inside the quoted text (green) box. That makes it harder for others to find your response (it probably won't be red like this).

Ice Kitty, that's a great tutorial. One more little tip: if you only want to quote part of someone's post, follow the instructions above, but delete whatever you don't want included in the quote, so you're left with only the part you want. Just make sure you don't delete either of the "quote" tags!

Thank you! Just opened up a separate tab so that I could use one for taking a screen shot and the other for the actual reply. Then I just put the screen shots into MS Paint to edit (add the arrows), saved as jpegs and then used tinypic.com for generating the html code to insert into my reply.

gamerpeeps asked me how I did the little mini tutorial above and I was just describing how I did it. The mini tutorial was for dmahoney who is having trouble with the "Quote" function. But yes, that is what is being discussed here.
