Does anyone get annoyed with words that are spelled incorrectly?
« on: February 26, 2012, 02:07:39 pm »
I will break out a red pencil on birthday cards and circle spelling errors.  The forum at Fusioncash has an astronomical number of errors in spelling.  I have seen a couple of the bloggers try to correct people who have posted only to be reprimanded for doing so.  For those of you that are mis-spelling words, don't take offense, take the input given to you by those of us on this site that like reading intelligently put together responses.  I don't believe that  I am asking too much.  Any job worth doing is worth doing right...so take the time to spell your words correctly.  Spell check does wonders.

Your suggestion has merit however, it's somewhat of a lost cause.  This is partly because some members treat online forums as casual conversation places where spelling and grammar are secondary to coming across as semi-literate; while several other members use cellphone 'chatspeak' or, just don't know how to spell.  Spelling errors will occur to anyone; grammatical errors are nominally the result of poor writing skills and it may be asking too much of some to improve them.

One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

I am so sorry for you. Stuff like this used to bother me until I learned to just ignore it.

Doesn't really bother me when it is on a discussion board.  Mistakes happen.

So you have heard about the dyslexic devil-worshipper who mistakenly summoned 'santa' then?

We have become so comfortable with communicating with texts that spelling words correctly becomes a thing of the past. It's all about quickness.

That probably applies more to superficiality than to depth of meaning.  Textual 'chat-speak' isn't reknowned for conveying profound concepts.

It does annoy me that people went through all that schooling to be so lazy with their spelling. It makes me cringe a little, but people aren't going to change.

I don't think spelling should matter for the most part. I think grammar is more important than spelling, because what good is it when I can't even make out the sentence?

I think I may be a frustrated English teacher or something. Spelling errors are like chalk on a black board to me whether it be in forums, newspapers, online or in books--I have seen them in each of these venues.
