what does everyone think about daycares? do you have any kids in daycare?  what are some of the things you have seen on the news? i want to work full time but i have seen too many things on the news and heard many things to even think about putting my daughter in daycare. my baby is more important than some extra cash.

You have to do your research, I have two young children, and they have very strict guidelines to follow from how many children to a teacher/ aide.... to what they feed the children, to the activities or educational materials they use. Both my 4 yr old daughter and my 2 yr old son both go, and its a structured day. Both the stories I hear on the news do worry me, because they can happen anywhere.

You're right, you DEFINITELY need to spend time with your daughter. But, for argumentative purposes, and because I'm annoying, let's look at the other side here. I know a lot about the daycare process, due to the fact that my mother has been a daycare provider since I was a little kid. And I think that while some of the stuff in news scares you, really, it makes you get TOTALLY the wrong view. Sure, stuff happens, but really, it depends on good choice. As in leaving your kid with an inexperienced teenager/vs a daycare veteran. EVERYONE needs to consider that stuff. I'm not saying that that's necessarily what happened there, but I know, as well as everyone else, what the news is best at doing is blowing stuff out of proportion. And that scares us. Also, while it may be that stuff really does happen, day cares are actually quite safe. For example, for the whole time my mother has done daycare, it has been licensed by the State of Kansas health department. And of course, you all have probably seen movies with the "evil health inspector". Let me say, it's TRUE, people. At least here. To be licensed, a daycare has to be randomly inspected every so often and without warning. And these people are not even afraid to outright LIE to make sure a home is totally safe. She almost had her license revoked 'cause the paper towel holder "was empty" (the inspector mistook the toilet plunger for a paper towel holder) and washing her hands with those wet wipes (which the inspector also got wrong just because they happened to be by the sink). But I'm going on and on and on. But, and sorry for this, just by your few-sentence comment, I'm kind of appalled that people even SEE day cares that way, or that people bother generalizing all of them like that. Come on, there's actually a DEGREE for doing stuff like that, so do you really think that the professionals WOULDN'T know what they were doing? I mean, if there's one thing I know, if you go to school for something, and for a long time, you really need to be dedicated to it. But judging by what you said, your only experience on the matter is through TV, correct? With that in mind, and getting down to the point (finally), let me say, and correct me otherwise, that you are wrong. Not in the way you think, but rather by the fact that you titled the thread wrong. I would bet half my cashouts that the stuff you've seen is about BABYSITTERS, because I've seen stuff like that. But they're two really different things. And while I watch no end of stereotyping crap about daycares, the only things I ever see are about BABYSITTERS, the type that come over to people's houses and shake babies and stuff while the parents are out. Nothing really happens in daycares, they are for the most part CONTROLLED environments, with the daycare's ability to know his/her own house combined with that.
That being said, the only thing I really am asking anyone like you to do is rethink their views on daycares in general. Because there is almost nothing that ticks me off more than having honest, reliable, hardworking people like my mother stereotyped because a few morons left their kids with unqualified, incapable idiots who go out and then proceed to make ALL people like that look bad.

That's MY view on the matter, anyway. I hope to get a response out of this, so I know what people think of what I have to say.

However you are right, as stuff happens ANYWHERE anyway. It's just not as bad as one might think.

It really depends on how long they are there, beginning years really shape a child and should be spent with the parents as much as possible

i didnt say that they were all bad i just dont want to take a chance that i wouldnt be able to change. just last summer a baby got left in the car by the daycare driver and the baby died. the tv blew it out of proportion because it was. so with that said i am going to stay home with my baby and keep working part time

Your baby is the most important thing!! Most definitely...I am a stay at home mom and it's something that I don't regret not one ounce..but if you feel like you just need to get out there you could work when your significant other is home....if you absolutely have to use a daycare facility I would go visit the daycare at least twice and have extensive talks with the person who you are trusting your child with. Go on a busy day and make sure the person is able to handle the children well. Also ask to see if the home or facility is child-proofed...ask to see what your baby would be fed...ask to see the license of the daycare provider, and any other credentials...the main rule is do not leave your child anywhere you don't feel she will be safe. If you are not comfortable with someone that's your mommy intuition red flagging and you need to choose a different place.
In my opinion the best thing for your child is to be with her mommy...but I do realize not everyone can be a stay at home parent. You have to do what is best for your family.

LOL... I don't have any kids so I don't have experience with "human" daycares. But I manage a DOGGY daycare, & even with these animals we can see that the "parents" need to be spending more time with their "kids"! You can definitely tell the dogs that get attention & training at home & the dogs who are put in daycare because the "parents" "just don't have time." I imagine it's the same with human kids. I think it's good to be around peers (doggy OR human) at least a few times a week but every day can be overwhelming.

Overall the best care a kid can get is from their mom/ parent. There is no daycare that is perfect. But if you want a high standard or 4 star rating daycare you will have to pay for it. Good things don't come cheap and cheap things are not good. A bargain hunter may say otherwise ;). I learnt this the hard way. Trying to save a few extra bucks, I took my kid to a low rating daycare and he was sick all the time with the flu. The woman in charge of the daycare allowed kids who were sick to be be dropped off still. So the flu kept being transferred from one kid to another. Thank God I am at home now and he don't have to go through that again.

you are right no one can take better care of their kids than the parents themselves. and like you also said good things arent cheap. im not going to work for all the money to go to daycare. were doing fine right now with my bf working full time and me working part time.

Yes it is true that know one takes care of your kid like your immediate family. But sending your child to daycare is not so bad after all because when a person sends there child to daycare the parent(s) should do research on the daycare to see if the service to the children are at a good rating with current parents that participate in the daycare of interest.

Not too long ago they had in the news here in chicago about that daycare worker who supposedly loved children and now she is being charged with murder. She threw the child down to the ground because she got aggravated with the other children in the daycare. Well the child died after crawling over to one of his favorite chairs at the daycare and that was that. Its sad when people take the lives of innocent children and they should all burn in hell! I myself would never put my kids in daycare EVER!

Anyone who would do that probably IS or WILL. That's why you really need to make sure you find the right one.
