Doomsday Bunkers
« on: March 29, 2012, 11:44:58 am »
So, there is this show on the discovery channel and its called Doomsday Bunkers. I watched it a few times because I figure it would be cool to see what it looks like and everything. There is this guy who paid $450,000 to have a bunker made to fit his needs and wants. Personally, if the world was to come to a end one day. I don't think anyone would be safe anywhere. So, why waste $450,000 on a bunker? Its just crazy if you ask me.

I believe in keeping the pantry stocked, but some folks take it too far. I think the only thing we need to worry about right now is hyper-inflation, but I don't think we are going to get wiped out by some natural event or anything. I could be wrong, but I'll take my chances.

I would have sent that cash to NASA so we can blast off to another solar system one day. :D

Search "Big Asteroid Impact" on YouTube and ask how much a doomsday bunker is worth. Might as well spend it on a nice bottle of wine.

I remember growing up we had air raid drills in school. We had to get under our desk. Like that would really help???? Our one neighbor had her basment stockpiled with everything- can goods, soap, toilet paper etc. This was in the 60's.  It was just the mentallity of the time and what we were taught to believe. I have read about some pretty elaborate shelters even today. They are more advanced with purification water and air systems.

Those people that spend that much money on a bunker have nothing else better to do with their money but waste.  If you want to blow your money, why not give it to someone that can use it better, like the starving people in this country and world, but that is just my 2 cents.

If the world is ending it's ending and there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it, so why spend insane amounts of money on something that will be worthless to you. That being said I highly doubt the world is ending anytime soon.

For reals huh, even if you did survive, the post apocalyptic world would be a horrible nightmare.

I dunno, I like seeing the over the top, often crazy preparedness some people go into. It's no worse I suppose then using the money for any other luxury item. I haven't seen the show, but I might check it out.
Survivalism forums and blogs are fun to browse to me. And they do have some good tips. I actually stumbled on it when looking up coupon info - so there are some that do it cheaply!

Dunno the philosphy behind that show, but with survival people, it's just "try to be prepared for anything" - from losing your job or breaking a leg, to the crazy nuclear holocaust/government collapse/zombie apocalypse stuff. So everyone of all types are usually welcome and encouraged (well, unless your only plan is "stock guns and raid other people who did prepare").

Basically, it's making sure (as much as possible) that your life is not horrible, both now and if something bad happens in the future.
