should Zimmerman have been granted bond for the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, who was unarmed.

this is a huge sensitive topic.  since he turned himself in i guess bond was okay, but i don't care what anyone says he went after that boy for no reason and should be in a jail for a really really long time.  Zimmerman was the one who attacked him there was no self defense.  expecially when the poor boy was just trying to get home after going to the store and he was on the phone with his gf.  it's just a sad situation

I do not know and it is not my area of expertise. Let the law do its thing. If he repents to God, it will good for his soul but the law is the law and it has to be seen to do its part.

Merely logging this as yet another interjection of specious religious beliefs into an unrelated, (albeit off-topic), subject.  Regret, ('repenting' to a hypothetical supernatural entity), has no bearing on legal procedings other than a slight one when an convicted offender is up for parole.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

Very true. I agree. we reap what we sow. He can still get the full extent of law and meet God at the same time. these are two two separate aspect, two different paradigms that may run consurently, and repentance is not a way to get some off the hook. There are a lot of people serving time who have met god in prison but must, by all means, serve time for their crimes to fullest extent of the law.  I only hope people will not be filled with hate as we watch the prosess. When we hate, we become no better than the other person -

Yes, this is a highly sensitive subject, and I try very hard not to make judgments on issues for which I don't have all the facts.  I don't believe we still know everything that happened that night.  My hope is that whatever happens from this point will be fair.

Bond is issued unless the defendant is likely to flee, commit another crime out on bond, or the crime was particularly heinous. So in this case yes, I think bond should have been issued.  O.J. Simpson was out on bond, c'mon.

I agree. Innocent til proven guilty.

15 recent burglaries in the area would suggest otherwise

This is what will be determined in court.

Bond seems appropriate.  Generally speaking, bond is issued in a fairly consistent manner across a jurisdiction and there is rarely any special considerations taken into account.  I think it is safe to assume that this case was 'especially' handled that way.  Generally speaking, one is entitled to a bond (except in high risk flight situations) as the person is innocent until proven guilty and if you shift away from offering a bond then you also shift the burden of proof which is wrong.

This is a more sensitive case than it should have been.  With ABC, CNN, and NBC admittedly misrepresenting the facts they had (which they later apologized for and even fired some of those that did the misrepresenting/lies -- but of course they didn't do this on air but on posts online at places most people would never check) to intentionally make this look like a racial killing it is no wonder people are emotional about this.
There are only 10 types of people in the world:  those who understand binary, and those who don't.

I have no idea, but I do know that since it has become such a hot issue, finding the truth will be very difficult. The case is starting to represent a socioeconomic gap that exists in America (and elsewhere I assume).
