do you feel pressure to straighten your hair all the time? How often do you just wear your natural hair?

I use special hair rinses to keep my hair straight because the weather really messes it up. I think it is the humidity. I prefer to have my hair straight...avoiding a bad hair day!

Until a year and a half ago I had a perm but I took it out (had to regrow my hair back out) so with few exceptions when my hair is braided, I leave it out naturally all the time ...even an afro sometimes  :icon_rr:

I have natural wavy hair, and I wear it that way all the time,  I never have tried to straighten mine at all.

What kind of products do you use to control it?

My hair is wavy and I have never straightened it, and always leave it in its natural form.

What kind of products do you use to control it?

Almost anything that is sulfate free works well for me.

I always HATED my curly hair and did straighten it once when I was a teenager. When it started to grow back in, the naturally curly roots looked ridiculous.

A long time back I read "Curly Girl" by Lorraine Massey and it really made a huge difference. If you haven't read it, you may want to check it out. Most libraries have it, and I know you can get used copies on Amazon for as little as $0.10. I found a salon that did Deva Cuts and I won't have my hair cut any other way. I only get my hair cut once a year now, and the cut is so amazing, as it grows in it still looks great.

After I started with the Deva Cuts I used the DevaCurl shampoo, conditioner and gel for a long time, but they're pretty expensive. I started experimenting with other sulfate-free products and finally settled on the L'Oreal Paris EverStrong Hydrate shampoos and conditioners, and I still buy the DevaCurl gel.

Hope this helps!

My hair used to be really curly, but it's more wavy now. I usually straighten my hair a few times a week and try and wear it more "natural" to avoid all the "damage" of blowdrying and straightening....
I have found a few products that work to avoid the frizzies- but not that many things actually work!

I don't think you mean this but look at African American women who go through chemical straightening several times a year because society demands it of them to hold down a decent job. We are made to feel as if something is wrong with us if we don't uphold a standard that has nothing to do with our culture. To me that is a form of mental abuse. It makes little children think that they are less than beautiful. I think it's hateful. :angry7:

I LOVE my curly hair!!!  I straightened it once and my hair was so thin my ears poked through and my husband said, "Please don't ever do that again!"  I just find hair products that work great and love my quick, easy curly hair!  Enjoy it!!!
