List of Email Scams -- Wikipedia
« on: July 05, 2012, 05:30:31 pm »
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_email_scams

"Online Dating Scam"... I honestly do not know how some of these actually work on people... Has anyone ever seen one of these before. My cousin fell for a lottery claim scam in the mail... She got a letter saying that she won $10,000 and she called all excited. About 2 1/2 hours later, she called again saying she just done talking to the police because the checks were fraudulent...

I wish there were a Wikipedia for list of scammers. There are definately enough of them out there. You've got to be on top of your game and watch what online channels you go to. I have known alot of people that re receiving calls that they owe this company or that company money. You've really got to be careful!!!

They send you an email first that you have won some money and then ask you to send your name and location if you want to claim the money. After that they ask you to come somewhere to pick them up, bring some money and get your money ( which is in a suitcase and apparently only you get the code to open up the suitcase). I think some people fall for that and go over to meet them and loose all their money and don't even get anything. Too bad these people actually do that.

Never fall for  mail or email that states you have won a lottery, they are all a scam. The only way you win a lottery is if you yourself play one.

I never open an email from something or someone I do not know, my mother got an email threatening her life, they provided personal information, like name, address and family members and told her to not contact the police, but that if she did not give them $50,000 by the end of the week one by one of her family members would die.  She call the police and they said that they had received a few calls for the same email, they kept an eye, but nothing ever happened, the police said that it was an scam and that th FBI already had an eye on the culprits.  My mother is on her late 60s and it scared the s...t out of her.  I told her next time if you do not know the sender do not open.  But sadly this people send emails from your own contacts, this hackers are horrible.

I get scam emails all the time. I get at least one a day saying I've either won a large amount of money or that I've been approve for a loan of a large sum. I've never gotten anything threatening but I also don't open emails that look fake

Ditto. I also get them regarding sex. I guess scammers think you will open anything that offers free money or free sex!

I only ever email one or two people, so anything else that happens to popup in my inbox is deleted. Most people text and facebook nowadays.

It's awful that people are still doing the lottery scams.
