« on: March 28, 2009, 06:31:52 pm »
I did the offers from the ringtone companies, where when u confirm the pin # thats been texted to u, u get like $5 or $6...i texted STOP to the company to cancel it, but I'm afraid they already charged me...has anyone done that? if so, were you charged?

I have not done one of these offers yet (not on this site anyway), but I did download a ringtone once from one subscriber and it pretty much worked the same way.  You confirm the pin they send you, etc.  I believe you are charged automatically.  When I texted STOP, it just prevented me from being billed again, but I was already billed for that first month (even though it was only a couple of days into the month).  I'm not sure if the one your referring to in particular works the same way or not.

Yea that's what I was talking about. So is that charge added on to my phone bill?

Yeah it's charged to your phone bill.  That's the catch for those types of offers.  Yeah they don't require a credit card, but they're not free.  You still get billed.  Actually there is a new offer posted that I looked at yesterday (can't remember the exact name) and it says that you have to sign up for the "FREE" trial.  Well when I clicked on it and read over the terms of service multiple times, it NEVER made any mention of a free trial.  You entered your number and confirmed the pin they sent you and you could cancel at any time, but it was by no means free.  You just have to be careful when signing up for those.  Make sure you read over everything.

I did one of the texting offers b/c I thought it was a free trial at first too...I confirmed the PIN and then realized it was $10 a month or something.  As soon as I realized that I replied STOP.  It didn't appear on my cell phone bill - I even called my provider to make sure it won't. You should be fine.
