Trojan Virus Blocked
« on: July 18, 2012, 07:22:55 am »
In the Daily horoscope/weather/etc - when you are asked to click on a sponsor, I clicked on the Business Loan one and my Norton blocked a TrojanVirus. Anyone else have this issue?

Not a problem here. I am using MS Security Essentials though. I do know that some protection software can be very picky and flag things in error.

Is this the one title "Business Funding" that goes to a Nevada site?

I just tried it and did not get a warning message.

I use Avast (free) security and Malwarebyte protection and frequently get that message on other sites.  Figure if they blocked it, my PC is safe.

Yes, there can be may false negatives in their responses.  For the most part, however, I don't really care whether I view the sites that are blocked.

I also use Microsoft Security Esstentials as well as Ad-Adaware and I have no problems with them.

I had that problem once. I don't know why...maybe it's a glitch of something? Did you have anything else on at that time, that's my only conclusion to this.

well whenever you are doing things that allow you to access sites outside of their own there is the chance that there may be malicious content somewhere, in today's world it is just foolhardy to even think that you can browse -any- site and be safe and free though webmasters try to keep things like this from happening the techniques used by people to embed these malicious files are getting more and more advanced, it is best to just keep you antivirus up to date and make sure that you are browsing in a safe manner. Other than that, just being online is a risk in and of itself and you should count yourself lucky for every link or email that you open or click that you do not get infected.

I use Avast for antivirus and WOT as a web advisor.  I end up blocking trojans EVERYDAY when I click on sponsored ads.  Avast alerts me everytime a virus has been blocked, the page doesn't load as a result.  This is part of the reason why I don't sign up for too many offers because my web advisor because the sites have low-ratings.  I'm aware users rate the sites and I don't always rely on the reviews, but they are helpful majority of the time.

I use Avast and I too have received blocks from time to time from this site. If people complain enough sometimes FC is able to get w/the sponsor about it but otherwise it can be hit or miss or like someone said above a false negative

A lot of times the viruses creep and wait for a port to be opened for it to sneak in going from one spot to the next so it might be there one minute then not the next.  Or it just opens for a certain number of people, like every 5 people who open the portal, or whatever.  THere are many reasons it would be there one minute and not the next.

That's just the nature of the Internet. I would avoid website that cause red flags with your anti-virus.

If you must view the website though I would use a sand boxed web browser. This way in case something nasty does get on your computer it will be confined and can be removed easily.

It is a possibility it is not the site at all. You should run a check on your PC with AVG and Malwarebytes. Sometimes viruses can attach themselves to your net browser and can redirect you when you're trying to access a page. That's what happens to a lot of ppl when this happens. The virus will often redirect you to site where you will be assaulted with more viruses. Something you should look into, just in case.
