Medical Issues
« on: July 20, 2012, 07:55:17 pm »
As we age we all know we are more likely to come across medical issues. What do you fear of getting when you are older?

My grandma has Multiple Sclerosis so I'm sure it will hit me, kind of a scary thing considering you can't control when your body just "short circuits" whenever it wants. I would have to say though Alzheimer's would be the worst, I'd hate not knowing who people are and forgetting things I have done every day of my life.

My worst fear would be to get Alzheimers.  My mother had it and I was her caregiver for 4yrs before her passing.  It was horrible to see the changes in her and not be able to help.  It is one of the most devastating diseases I have ever seen.  I pray everyday that the people who have this disease for them not to have to suffer and for their caregivers.

I have had MS since 92.  I am the ONLY one in my family to have it.  (I couldn't win LOTTO!)  They do not know what causes it at this time, but it is NOT hereditary.  SO, just because your grandmother had it, does not mean that you will.  From my angle, Alzheimers is far worse.

Cancer....I really don't like pain.  I told my spouse that I would prefer going quick, in an accident or something rather than suffering years with a disease that is eating me up! My mom died of Non-hodgkins disease when I was 16.

I don't think it's the medical issues that matter, it's age. As we grow older, our organs get weaker by the year. Eventually our insides won't be up to date and are more susceptible to diseases that we were once used to.

The fact that you are "not remembering" things is really a LARGE statement also!  Are you forgetting things from your childhood or is it short term, as in 'why did I come in this room'?

BOTH can be explained though and even helped!  ginkobiloba or a pad to write things down sometimes help this!  Forgetting is a NORMAL part of life.  Instead of panicking as to 'why', aleve the stress and anxiety and try to help what you can!
