Some homeless are greedy!

Tell me this isn't crazy. My mom is from Chicago. She has a genuine heart and loves helping people. One day we were coming out of a chicken restaurant on the southside and this homeless guy stops and starts crying  about how hungry he is. My mom felt so bad for the guy because he looked in a few times while we were eating. She decided to go back in and she bought him some chicken. When she brought the bag to him he scrunched up at his face at her like you couldve just gave me sum money. My mom snapped on him. I dont know what made me think about that but I found myself laughing at the memory of how they were looking at each other!

I always find buying food to a homeless person, especially ones that have kids with them is lot better than giving money.  Some people try and scam you for money to buy alcahol or drugs.  If they are truly hungry than they will accept any food you give them and appreciate it.

I'm hesitant nowadays giving money directly to the homeless as I've seen a number of homeless abuse the use of this charity towards items, such as drugs. To a degree I'm willing to give my time to help (i.e. soup kitchen) and acquire items for non-profits (i.e. cans) instead.

In just about every community I have lived in including very small ones there is a food pantry or soup kitchen. If not then most churches have a way of assisting the poor and hungry. So there is no reason for someone to hang out in front of a restaurant. Also, most restaurants will share their left over food with someone that is that hungry.

There's good and bad in every level of society is what I'm learning. There's con artists in every level of society too as well. Even family members are not to be trusted at times. So it's been proven to me that anyone can be greedy. Even the wealthy and rich in every continent and country are greedy. So let's not be discriminant towards the homeless. For God's sake there's greedy people in jails and in prisons  .

I agree, some are greedy and some just want the money to buy drugs, but who are we to judge.  Your mom did what she was suppose to do, she fed the hungry and she will be bless for that.

I would definately prefer to give food to the homeless rather than money as I can't be sure where the money will go. I'm sure there are good people out there who would use the money for good but it is hard to be trusting when there are some many people who would take the money to buy drugs. I once gave some food to a homeless person after going through McDonalds I gave his a couple of burgers and I saw him throw it on the ground and stomp on it when I drove past. I can't bring myself to try again after that.

yup you get people like that. Reminds me of when McDonalds was selling beenie babies with a purchase of a happy meal. People were visiting all McDonalds in the area to get diffrent beenie babys and there was sooo much food being trashed, no one wanted the meal just the beenie. Late at night a father came in with his little daughter. Holding her hand and looking lost as we was in the long lines waiting for the stupid beenie baby. Finally a few folks asked him what he was doing and he said reluctantly and scared. "Uh.. Some people told me that they are giving free food out around here??)
I was thinking holy S@#$ this whole time all of us been just throwing tons of burgers,fries and drinks away!! This guy just wants to feed his daughter a happy meal! Needless to say we all tried to give him alot but he only took 2 for him and 2 for his daughter. It was like she never got that and that night she finally got one. The humility of this man choked me up and made me think what I take for granted. Could I have De-Prided my self to go ask a crowd that for food? What I was him. I got kids too and they are my life. When I cannot provide for them I wanna die.

Thats not always true some people may have fallen upon bad times and just couldnt get back in the swing of things. I was adding some things to my storage other day be it a Sunday eve and there was a Family there with 2 kids and the Man and a woman. My thought was at least on the weekends they have somewhere to go. Plus it is not allowed at the storage area but who am I to call in on a Family who are just trying to survive, and even if that wasnt the case Its not helpful for them and they seem to be not harming anyone. This Family was white and I thought to myself we are in bad times when I see so many nationalities in trouble and Poor is color blind it happens to all of us and not what most think, cause at any given time one of us can be in that position. I said a prayer for that family and wished I could do more and on my next visit just to see if they are there. Im gonna say hi and maybe if they accept donated things some of my son and I clothes we were going to give to the thrift store and also see if the man need this Suit which is very nice that my dad owned would want it and maybe can go to a interview in or at least have something on stand by that he can look nice in when going to a interview. I think my dad would be happy that someone can enjoy something of his to make they life better. RIP Dad June 2011.

God Bless you in your tasteless humor in the homeless or even so a person with high cholesterol. My dad had that problem among many other things.

I don't really think panhandling is appropriate, because there are so many official organizations that help the homeless get the meals, shelter, and supplies they really need. I don't think homeless people are greedy. I just think that particular man was looking for money for something OTHER than food, most likely something nefarious.

OVERWHELMING majority >99% of homeless are drugs addicts whose own family friends have turned their back on them.  I do not no feel sorry for them.

Yes everyone lies about knowing that one person who is homeless that fell on hard times.  If you know this person... LET THEM MOVE IN!!!
