While I am enjoying Country Strong with the pairing of Tim McGraw and Gwyneth Paltrow I am a bit disappointed that it focuses on Garret Hedlund.  Not that he isn’t watchable because he is.  It’s just that I expected to see more of Tim McGraw.

I think out of all the dragon fantasy movies I have (and I collect as many as I can) the greatest is still Dungeons and Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God.  It remains true to the RPG while the first one was just a stupid comedy type movie.  Wrath of the Dragon God takes itself very seriously and the actors are great in the roles they had to play.  I am just sorry they didn’t throw Jeremy Irons into it.  He got stuck in the first one and really couldn’t save the movie (though he did give it his best shot as with all his roles.)

I just watched an oldie "The Guns of Navarone" with Greogry Peck and Anthony Quinn. It's a great WW II classic.

Now you see the Golden Globes get it right.  That’s what I love about it.  Best picture as Argo, yeah.  I could live with that knowing it was either that or Lincoln.  Which were the two top box office dramas of the year.  Then best picture for musical or comedy (which is another reason I love the Golden Globes because they separate drama from comedy or musical) no question had to be Les Misérables.  Best Actor Daniel Day-Lewis in Lincoln for drama and Hugh Jackman in Les Misérables for Comedy or musical.  The best part Ben Affleck for Directing Argo.  Stupid Oscars didn’t even nominate him.  And the stupid Academy claims Amour (which took Golden Globe for best foreign film, which it should) should be a best picture of the year nomine (which it should not).  What is with the stupid Academy Awards?  Why can’t they be more like the Golden Globes?  I should stop watching the Oscars and just stay with the Golden Globes.  They never fail to disappoint the way the Oscars do.

Stupid Academy Awards! How can they not nominate Ben Affleck but Michael Haneke for Amour (a foreign film by the way) or Benh Zeitlin for Beasts of the Southern Wild.  Now I like Ang Lee but really I think he’s done better that Life of Pi but that one I’ll let go.  The other two, I think where put in just to oust Ben Affleck.  I mean come on, Ben’s won every best director award at every award show this year.  At least he made the joke he’d like to thank the Academy when he won best director at the Critic’s choice award.

I think it’s true what the Washington Post said the year Crash won for best picture.  They said that the Oscar no longer goes to the movie most deserving.  It goes to the movie most needing ticket sales.

I’ve seen a lot of people play Sherlock Holmes.  I’ve seen just about every Sherlock Holmes movie ever made.  While Jude Law has to be the best Dr. Watson I have ever seen, Basil Rathbone is the absolute best Sherlock Holmes.

So many good movies coming out this year! Can't wait to see Iron Man 3, The Wolverine, The Hangover 3, and the prequel to Monsters Inc.!

I'm also excited for Iron Man 3! I liked the first 2. I am also looking forward to the new cheesy zombie movie, Warm Bodies :D

I watched Skyfall and while I detest Daniel Craig as Bond, it was pretty enjoyable.  At least until the last five minutes when they chose to do the ‘connecting’ piece that ties this movie into Dr. No.  My main problem is there are things said and done throughout the course of the movie that makes one believe Skyfall is actually after Die Another Day (the last Peirce Bronson Bond movie) rather than after Quantum Solace. They are subtle things like Q telling him the days of the exploding pen are over and posting a spy list to YouTube.  They blow up the Aston Martin which Bond even uses, taking it out of storage no less, because it does not have a GPS system so can’t be tracked but then are using GPS systems for tracking cars in the opening sequence of the movie.  Throughout the movie he is constantly being told that he is old. Well how can that be if (as it turns out) this is only his third “Official” mission?  And the killing off of “M” (Dame Judi Dench)?  How does that make sense if Skyfall is before Dr. No?  What is she like resurrected 20 years later to be hired for the Golden Eye mission?  I mean that is when they started using her for “M” which is why it made no sense to keep her as M when they started the whole prequel to Dr. No crap with Casino Royale.  For that to even make sense it would have to mean all the Pierce Bronson Bond movies come after this one but before Sean Connery’s Dr. No.  Which even that really doesn’t make sense.

Skyfall, the latest bond film, I guess the only true way to watch it is to watch it alone.  Don’t try to fit it in line with the other Bond films because it doesn’t go.  Not perfectly.  It’s like trying to force a piece into a jigsaw puzzle slot where you know it really can’t go.  So if you watch it as a stand alone Bond film, you’re fine.  Try to watch it as part of the collection and you’ll realize there is not enough aspirin in the world for that headache.

Have to say that while I am not a huge fan of Tom Cruise I do enjoy the mission impossible set (well excluding the second the one).  Then I just saw Knight and Day on FX.  Always wanted to see it.  Once I did I found no matter how many times I saw it I still found it funny and exciting.

I just got the Rise of the Guardians.  I truly love the cast but my only problem is I can’t wrap my head around Chris Pine (of Captain Kirk Star Trek fame) as Jack Frost.  They made Jack Frost look like a kid (because he was one when he died and became Jack frost) but Chris Pine has a ‘man voice’.  To me the sound of the voice just doesn’t work with the way he looks.
