Let's talk Christmas
« on: November 30, 2012, 04:58:56 pm »
I do not do decorations outside my house.  It’s just too much of a hassle.  I have a bay window which (on the inside) I string a set of lights and put up three angels (one red, one purple and one blue).  I figure angels are religious enough to be ‘holidayish’ without adhering to anyone one religion.

I do all the wrapping at my house.  No that that’s problematic.  It’s just so time consuming that because I have a lot of gifts to wrap my back winds up hurting at the end.  That’s why I gave up making homeade bows.  I’ve got this machine that if you thread ribbon, the cloth kind, through it all you need do is tie the middle then fluff it out and you have your own bow.  Because wrapping takes forever and I span it out to a couple days, I had to give up making bows.

I started printing my own gift tags.  Not because that makes them special or anything but because I can’t get the size I need for the packages I wrap.  While big boxed are always easy to find store bought gift tags for there just isn’t any tiny ones for jewlery boxes.  As a rule my mother prefers jewelry for Christmas and I just don’t feel like putting the tiny box that came with the jewelry piece in it into a bigger box just so that I can have a gift tag that matches the size box I do have.  Hence, the gift tag making.

I always listen to holiday music but I started to make my own playlist cds because the ones I buy in the store, with the exception of a few artists like Martina McBride or Josh Groban I never like all the songs on the list.  With my own cd’s I can toss them in the car, hear all the songs I want without worry of having to sit through a song I can’t stand.  If I had to do that I am better off listening to the radio during the holidays.  It would get me the same result.

I don’t care much for the way artists tend to put their own style to christmas songs but every Christmas it just isn’t Christmas without listening to Martina McBride or Josh Groban.

If I have time for nothing else at Christmas I have to watch Mickey’s Christmas Carol.  I was so happy when they put it on dvd because I was afraid they never would like I can’t get a hold of the Looney Tunes Christmas.  I think that was made back in ‘79.

Even though I’m Jewish I still enjoy good Christmas songs.  I’ll bet any Jew in America knows all the words to at least one Christmas song.  They are just way better than Jewish Chanukah songs.  I mean Silent Night or Come rest all ye gentlemen beats Dreidel any day.

The best Christmas present anyone ever got me was my younger brother buying me a computer.

The best Christmas present I ever got myself was a portable dvd player.

I don’t shop on black Friday.  I hate the hassle and the crowds.  If I can get the gifts before then I usually do.  This year I started back in the summer.

I do all the wrapping for my house.  I did draw the line though.  I mean I am NOT wrapping my own gifts.

Why is it getting harder to find ribbon?  I was raised to wrap with ribbon by my grandmother (which this Christmas will be the 2nd one without her) who taught me a package isn’t complete without one.  The width of the ribbon has to correspond to the size of the package but all that anyone sells lately is curling ribbon.  I’ve seen huge packages wrapped with that thin curling ribbon and it looks silly.  However if that’s all that’s left then that’s what I gotta use.

I like to put little trinkets on the packages because it’s like you’re giving a gift within a gift.

I bought a, well in truth it’s a karaoke machine, but I wrap in the kitchen because that’s where the biggest table in the house happens to be.  the Karaoke machine is a portable dvd/cd/radio player which gives me a variety of choices and distractions while I wrap.  Its not that I need one but its just less tedious and makes the time go by faster with a movie on or listening to music rather than just wrapping.
