Valentines day over rated?
« on: February 02, 2013, 10:39:24 am »
Valentines Day is just an excuse for people to waste money on a bunch of crap to show someone how much they love them, when in reality if you love someone they know, and they don't need a bunch of crap that will not last more then a week in the first place. What a joke.

Valentines day is very commercial in many ways but it is still a choice whether you partake in that aspect of the holiday. I enjoy the holiday because it reminds me to make sure to appreciate my husband and show that I care with thoughtful gestures and is an excuse to spend a whole day together to reconnect. If you only enjoy Valentines day for the extravagant gifts and flowers than I feel really sorry for the type of relationship you have that you can't show affection without big gifts.

Yup, I agree, but as a woman I would still feel some sort of way if I didn't get anything from my man on V-day. It doesn't have to be elaborate, just a little something. Maybe some candy or roses...but yeah, you're right. LOL...

Valentine's day has become more of a "make money" deal than anything else these days.  Gone are the real romantic meanings of the day and that's pretty sad.  The only way to really enjoy it is to forget all the "commercialism" and spend time with your honey just enjoying each other's company!!!!

whenever I had a relationship, I would take my lady out to eat, and I made her some homemade valentines. some of the old-school metal songs can make your lady
want you more. a good metal song for any lady is "I'll Never Let You Go" by Steelheart. I copy metal, Motown, and country songs from Youtube to my girlfriend's email
and she really enjoys them.

My husband and I try to celebrate each other throughout the year. I'm learning more and more that I don't have to do things the way everyone else does them. It doesn't matter if I receive something on Valentine's Day or not.

When you don't have someone special in your life to celebrate with it can be very difficult and i guess it times valentines day does seem rather over rated. Even tough their are lots of people in your life that you care about not having someone special to share it with is tough. :peace:

I wouldn't say that it is over rated. It is what you make of it. Like Halloween, Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, etc...some people celebrate and others don't. Some follow a holiday for religious purpose and others don't for the same reason. The stores put out more and more each year because we the consumers by in to all of what we see. I personally love Valentine's day. I bought red bowls, red champagne glasses with hearts on them, heart plastic battery operated lights, heart filled cupcake papers, and so much more. I make pink and red desserts and put out red candies and make the most of the day. I do it because I love to celebrate things. I like to celebrate with my fiance but I also do all the little things to celebrate with my nephews too. I do little things all year round to show the ones around me that I love them, not just on Valentine's day. But i do like to emphasize it more so on the day too. If it was just to do it on that one day, then yes I would say that it is over rated in that sense. Again to each their own.

I don't think Valentine's Day is overrated at all.  It is the only time when a man shows a woman he loves her, unless he don't care for her at all.  Even the pastor at my church hands out candy to the women of his congregation.  My husband bought me a box of chocolates last year and told me how much he loves me.

I think its a cute holiday, yes it's commercialized for profit but at least the day is centered around love.
