Valentine's Day is very commercialized and everyday could very well be deemed Valentine's Day if you love someone, but this doesn't stop me from trying to do something extra special for a person. Of course my wallet is hurting.

For me, the idea of doing something for your loved one is fine, I just don't quite get how taking you sweetheart out on a date on this specific day means you love him/her more than taking him/her out on any other day of the year.

Personally, I would rather my boyfriend not take me out on Valentine's day.  Most of the time the prices seem to go up on Valentine's day and then you're fighting to get a reservation.  I would much rather that he takes me out on a day when I feel bad or something to cheer me up rather than on some commercially designed holiday.

I think it can be overrated. It is certainly very commercial, but like anything else, some people are into it and some aren't. I think it just depends on the individual and their view.

Actually considering the history of valentines day it is not so over rated.  Has it become commercilized beyon reason...again you get what you put into it.  But on the bright side of the issue at least we are not celebrating a holiday to go to war over.  Course between the Jhiads and crusades, civil and un civil war, war against drugs, war against war.  Ya know maybe we all ought to spend a little more time on valentines day.  Like the message in the song, "You gotta stop and smell the roses along the way!"

I personally feel that Valentines day is too commercialized.  Besides why do we need a special day to show someone we love them.  Should that not be all the time.
I think that having valentines day does not really capture the true feelings.  If someone is loved there should be no need to assign a special day for it.  My feeling is that any day could be valentines day.  If this were the case, to me, it would have more meaning and be much more sincere.

I think it's a mistake to allow it to be all about the money spent.  Just like it is when Christmas is all about money.

Valentines Day is one of my favorite holidays because when you experience LOVE with someone you trust you feel one of the happy hormones called Oxytocin.  Bring on the love and happiness!

Have a great day!

I think i read it somewhere that it was a time when people were forbidden to get married.  But now it's just used for businesses to make money.

Well not really but the prices do go up around these type of holidays. How about cook your love one a dinner of all their favorite foods and go see a movie or rent one. That dinner would be from the heart and not much money spent. I wouldn't mind keeping it simple.

Being single, I'm not a fan of valentines day - or any of the holidays that I call Hallmark holidays.  Of course when I was in a relationship, I would not be happy if I didn't get flowers on Valentines day.   I guess it depends on your relationship status.

Yes, I tend to agree.  I have no doubts of the feelings of my boyfriend.  He is GREAT at the little things every day, so if Valentine's day turns into anything or not, it's no big deal to me.

There are a lot of days that are just excuses for people to waste money.  And yes Valentines day is one of them.  I feel it comes as a big deal for people with weak emotions to start with.

Is there a holiday that isn't an excuse to waste money? I don't believe a single merchant knows which one it is.

I love getting flowers or candy and mushy cards, with that said I don't think you should just do it 1 day a year. My husband and I must tell each other at least half a dozen times every day that we love each other, i know every day of the year that he loves me and I am his "Valentine" Every day.
