My daughter used to have goldfish but they died a couple of days after we bought them. So, we bought her a tank and some pink gourami's aka kissing fish. They lived to be around 8 years old.

I have had goldfish that lived about a year. Have you seen the monster goldfish that was found in Lake Tahoe? Worth a google for you goldfish fans.

I have never had a goldfish as a pet.  My pets were mainly cats and a couple of dogs.    :star:

A couple of years ago, we had a church carnival and a lot of us won gold fishes including my mom. All of ours die within days, but my Mom still has her. It's so big it looks like a purana; It beautiful. When people go to her house they can't believe how big her fish has become. It was 1/2 inch now it's about 6 inches long and fat. Go Mom!

I dont have any fish. Its so much work to take care of them, my dogs can come and get me when they need something.
We did have goldfish when i was little though. They were HUGE, those things gave me nightmares
I do agree that a beautiful fishtank with any kind of fish in it is beautiful to look at  :)

My mom brought me goldfish for my 11th birthday (I think). I took very good care of them. I cleaned their tank, fed them, did everything right. They lived longer than I expected them to, but one day I came home from school and they were gone. My mom said they had died...I was like, "All four of them!" she was like, "Yes, they died, I'm sorry. You know that they don't live very long". I never found out what actually happened to them. They were alive when I left for school, but when I came home, ALL...of them had been flushed down the toilet. I wasn't too upset though, cause they were just gold fish and weren't going to live long anyway, but still.

I've never had a goldfish, though I have had 2 beta fish before.
My sister had goldfish that she won at her elementary school Halloween Festival though!

I think Betas are so much prettier.
Aggressive, and you have to put a lid on the tank so they don't jump out, but very pretty.

I currently have a three year old comet goldfish. He was a carnival goldfish that my cousin won. She had him in a tiny glass bowl and was planning on flushing him. So, he's my "rescue" fish. He started out at two inches and he's now around six inches long.

how many people out there have a goldfish as a pet? i have had my for almost a year at first i have bought baby ones but they all  die so i decided to  just  buy the ones that where a bit bigger. and i guess, there much stronger or something, but like i said it's still alive.

i had 10  goldfish before but when they got bigger they started dying.  i guess my tank was too small for all those fishes.

I have had them....don't like them at all though.  VERY dirty fish!  Yuck!  We have betas now...MUCH cleaner, and they flare...more fun! Enjoy your fish!

I only had goldfish as pets when I was young.  However, they all died within a few days.  I really did not enjoy them however.  Not as much fun as a cat or a dog.
I personally prefer cats as they are quieter, cleaner and less work than a dog.  But I still love dogs as well, just to play with when they are someone else's dog.
