Birth control Pills
« on: March 27, 2013, 11:57:09 pm »
I'm wondering if anyone out there had any kind of side effect after starting the BC pills? I started taking them last yr.I've suffered with craps all my life. When I younger, they were so bad, I'd miss school. I know I  inherited this from mom. Cuz when her cycle would start, it was so bad, she'd always end up in the hospital! After yrs of debating, I decide to get on the pill cuz even if it's manageable now,I figured....I've deprived myself with alot of stuff that could have made it easier but I guess the Asian in me has that genetic code of 10 thousand or more years of guilt even if you're not & the do I really deserved this cuz there are people on the street homeless & starving! Anyway, I started it & it was working perfectly. This Feb. I got another brand of bc pills. By the of Valentines, noticed large clusters of dry skin on, my eyelids, eyebrows all the way down to my cheek bones! I was :o cuz all my life I've had oily skin. Now, it's on the extreme dry end. When i got my March refill again they didn't have my brand & told me they were changing it cuz my brand but not the 1 used in feb but a new brand. The new 1 i'm using I don't think it's drying my skin but I get a few patches but not as sever as the last brand. If Any1 knows cheap ways to get rid of dry skin. Please let me know; I miss my oily skin.I've always looked younger than my age b/c of the oil. Now, I can already see cracks of wrinkles b/w my skin & the dry patches!

I am 38 and no longer need to take birth control.

But, I did when I was younger.  I took Ortho Novum 777 in my early 20s.  That pill made me nauseous every day I was on it.  I also had an evening migraine every day I was on it.

Then, in my mid-twenties, I was on Loestrin for about two weeks before I had to stop taking it.  The first week I was on it, I spent the majority of the time curled up on the floor of the bathroom.  Oh my goodness, I was so ill from that pill it was ridiculous.

My daughter was on the lowest strength Ortho Novum and she didn't have any problems with that.  She went on it because our family (she and I included) have a history of really bad cycles, endometriosis, and ovarian cancer.  I told her to get the low-dose, and she did.  She did not stay on it very long, though.

Many women have bad side effects.  I know there is a class action lawsuit against at least two birth controls because of how badly they affected women.

You really should research and ask a lot of questions before starting a birth control pill. And if one is affecting you in an unpleasant way, ask your doc about it.. Also, be aware of the amount of estrogen and iron in the brand you are taking. A lot of estrogen can really affect you. It can make you sick to your stomach, gain weight, have mood swings, get acne..in your case it did the oposite with your skin but it may be because the pills are throwing off the balance of your body. A lot of Iron can have an effect to.
Ive had to experiment a bit with a few because of this. I too had horrible cramps through middle school and high school to where I couldnt move from my bed and was vomiting for the first two days. So I got a pill that shortened my period and made cramps less painful.
But be careful with pills that make your period dramatically shorter than your normal period. Although its nice, it could lead to complications later like blood clots   :sad1: if its just one day or not coming at all for months. But for you im sure staying on that pill and just finding something for dry skin would be fine.
Now I have Microgestin 1/20. Ive been taking bc pills for 3 years (off & on) and its the only one that works for me without complications. Its the perfect combo for me. But every girl is different and effects us in different ways, so just be weary of that and watch your body. Good luck(:

I think you should stick to the pills though versus the patch, IUD, or nuva ring because some of those have an insane amount of estrogen and can make your moods so wacky! ive seen it lol

I agree with your advice.  Also, if there is a history of cancer in the family, taking estrogen may not be wise at all.  Estrogen does trigger cancer in some women.  (Which is why I had a hysterectomy in 2005.)

There is a simple mouth swab test to see which pill will work best for you.  Most gyn have no idea about it, for some odd reason.  Google the test.

My friend is an ER nurse and sees so many people with blood clots or other problems that often result in death.  I no longer take it.
