I'm assuming you're talking about Easter events. Otherwise, I'm not sure what else you're referring to. My family doesn't participate anymore, but when my child was younger and when I was young we always used real eggs. We would spend the time to decorate them, dye, them, etc. and then give then out to family or eat them ourselves. As my family eat eggs quite often this is often not an issue.

Real ones for dying and hard boiled. Plastic ones for candy.

I dye real eggs every year.  It seems to take weeks to eat them all unless I make egg salad....

Plastic. My husband hide them and were still missing 2 so I could only imagine what our house would be smelling like right now if they were real!

We use to do both when my daughter was little.  We'd hide the plastic eggs and color the real eggs for the fun of it.
Have a wonderful day!

We always die real eggs making each one speacial for family and friends.  Used to hide them until we got the squished one in the carpet.  Yuk.  know we hide chocolate eggs and decorate the table with hard boild eggs.  We also blow some eggs and use the yoke for breakfast.  We keep are eggs so the kids can look back at their art and No they dont smell.  Hard boiled eggs just swirvil up to a little ball.
