The things that are wrong with our economy probably will not be fixed without some serious overhaul.  There are major issues with the Federal Reserve, the IMF, and The World Bank.  We also have over-borrowed from many countries.  So much so, that if all the foreign governments came together and demanded we repay our loans, the nation would be seriously strapped.

All of the jobs we sent to foreign countries need to come back first.  This would accomplish several things -- create jobs here, put more money back into circulation here, and if we did away with all the unnecessary "automation", then it would also help bring back the human touch to sectors that need it - like customer service.

We need to give individuals back certain freedoms that are being distinguished in the guise of safety, such as growing one's own food and the ability to distribute it to friends who want it, without threat of government intervention.  This would help communities substantially, especially poor areas -- this would help poor families save money on food, allowing them to have more money for essentials.

Getting a new president won't change a thing - because any president is still going to receive his blessings from the World Bank, IMF, and United Nations.  It is worth doing some research on the World Bank and the IMF.

:( Yes I agree we as the USA need to to start producing our own products again instead of relying on China. I don't think its all the presidents fault it would not matter who we had in office they still have to go by certain rules and listen to and take in everyones opinions before making a decision on anything. If we started producing our own products here in the us we would create jobs for the american workers instead of relying on China and Walmart sorry but true. But its not just Walmart selling China everwhere you turn everything is made in China. Not Good that is why there are no jobs China has stole them to produce cheap materials for the us. I don't agree with cutting welfare programs because alot of these people need food for their kids and medical they otherwise could not afford. I do however agree that some people may be abusing the system by popping out kids to supprt themselves. These people need a operation done to prevent them from having more than 2 kids. They also should do mandatory drug testing for people on welfare to see who actually needs it. Because if your paying for illegal drugs you don't need assistance. except maybe for rehab. and these peoples kids should be taken from them and put into the governments hands were they are probably better off. You certaintly would not here so many horror stories of kids being abused and such if the druggies were out of the picture. until they have made a honest living and proved they are not on drugs anymore.

How about instead of relying on foreigners for oil, employing them at every gas station on every corner of every town in every state...we use our own oil?! The Keystone Pipeline program would create a bunch of new jobs! Furthermore, more American-owned gas stations would equal more honest Americans making money, which can in turn be spent in the various markets, thus boosting the economy! Just an idea...

I loved the movie "Dave" about a look-alike average citizen coaxed into impersonating the President, who was secretly incapacitated from a major stroke.  He found ways to eliminate waste to re-channel funds into more worthwhile spending because he was able to see government through the eyes of a regular person.  It seems to me that government officials have lost the perspective from which most of us operate and survive on a day-to-day basis.  They look at billions or trillions and shrug off millions, while we are accustomed to counting dollars and pinching pennies.  This is not a solution but maybe a reason...

I must say a lot of you have some really good imput and i couldn't have said it better. We do need to stop all unnessary spending and all monies should be stopped going overseas. Lets clear up all the waste and fruad, Leave the seniors alone, after all they paid into the program 30-40 years while they were working and they also pay for their medicare.  And i don't mind help those who need it. But welfare was not suppose to be an end to not working at all, but a little help for those that need it. When i was working i had several young ladies working that need a little extra help to get by, But they worked at least 25-30 hours. So i signed off for them to get help with housing and wic. But by golly they were trying and not sitting on their a## not doing anything.

Reduce government spending across the board. We have gone over the deep end with this Keynesian-style economy to the point that the government is the major purchaser of products in certain sectors, which skews the free-market system to favor anything that the government pays for. Unfortunately though while in the short term this will help those businesses, as demand begins to out-strip supply and the government setting the price by deciding how much it will pay, we start to run out of the supply. We saw this in the 70s with the gas; although OPEC had instituted an oil embargo to limit supply, this was exacerbated when we started to institute price controls to help ease the soaring gas prices caused by the embargo.  The price controls increased demand, which in turn cut into the supply that was already hurting and eventually led to shortages. We are beginning to see similar things happen with certain sectors in our economy. We have already begun to see how the Affordable Care Act ("Obama Care") has caused an increase in demand with things like First Dollar Coverage for certain things as well as allowing coverage for pre-existing conditions, and a decrease in supply as doctors being paid 60%-80% of market value for their services (thus a form of price control) are refusing to see patients with these government plans. This has thus caused medical prices to increase as premiums have risen and may in the future result in shortages. The government has also propped up certain businesses that it favors even if the business can't survive in the free market, including the auto industry, banks and housing, green companies, etc. For example, by the government giving money for first-time home buyers as a means to stimulate home purchases as well as low interest-rates is causing housing prices to artificially inflate which may result in another housing bubble. In addition the government's foreign policies such as the spending on the military-industrial complex that former President Eisenhower warned against. We really need to stop this out-of-control government spending and government intrusion in the private sector to allow the free market to correct itself and flourish, thereby providing more jobs, less corruption, and more innovation.

Isn't it amazing that we can see how overspending and sending all the jobs overseas, are hurting this country, but the politicians can't? Actually, I think they know that, but they don't want to admit it. I agree with the poster that said that it doesn't really matter who is president, because they are all puppets of the IMF and the federal reserve. That's why Ron Paul always wanted to get away from that, and go back to having the US control its own money.

Cutting the fat.....multimillion dollar vacations, doggie limos, wasteful programs that drain off our efforts and our cash. Two of our founding fathers said that without a free press, we cannot be free and the other said that once we figure out how to vote ourselves money, the nation will be lost.  Also, well, this would turn into a rant so I will stop right here.  Read the constitution, understand it and act accordingly if we are to survive.

I think that the stimulus money for homeowners, to lower mortgages, help out people who are a little behind, should be put into the economy now!  This would loosen up money for them to either pay off other bills or to do some stimulus themselves: buy washer and dryers, ovens, etc.   A lot of people bought when the prices were at their peak, and they are not going to get back to the prices for a few years, I also know a couple of families that may loose their home because of major illnesses (child with cancer) or jobs lost because of the down turn in the market.  Instead of being a domino effect to loss, help out the homeowners instead of sending foreign aide packages or hjelping out ILLEGAL immigrants.  Legal immigrants played by all the rules, so I don't think they should be lumped in with illegals.  When they say the illegals did not do any crimes or anything wrong, they just want a job.  They came here illegally!   I don't think you should be able to drag yourself in to this country at 8  1/2 months or even in labor and then your entire family gets to become a citizen because you had the baby here.

There are lots of ways to boost the economy but, not too many Politicians are willing to take the actions that are needed. Gas and Oil should be expanded and not just on Private lands, Govt now leases land - have them increase the price of leases and open up more land to be explored. The reason Oil and Gas companies don't pay that much is because they can write off all their expenses toward the leases. Tax their profits at a flat 20 percent and that would open up more money, there are too many write off's right now. Stop paying (undocumented workers) any Welfare, food stamps, or any government funding. This is like paying criminals while they are in Prison. Stop giving Government money to pet projects that don't work or produce anything, there are hundreds of Billions of dollars wasted in this area. Everyone thinks that stopping wars or cutting back on Military is the answer- Yes it could be curbed but, We spent 898 Billion dollars on top of the budget in 2009, we haven't spent that in Afganistan in the 11 years we have been there. Don't ask me to go on because I could almost write a book on the waste that is just going out the door. The government could easily save, at the minimum of 400 Billion each year, If Politicians would just have the guts to take them on.
