I think I have fibromyliga and my doctor doesn't believe that there is such a thing. Should I go to another doctor to see what he thinks. I have researched it on like and I have a lot of the symptoms, but when I go in and mention to my Gp I just get a smile and shaking of his head and says take some Tylenol and you will be fine.

One thing I hate is a doctor who makes light of a patients concerns. I have a niece who complained of stomach pains for years and went back and forth to doctors and hospitals who treated her like she was some hysterical female. All too late we found out she had ovarian cancer (third stage), she passed away. Never listen to doctors who try to tell you how you feel. Trust yourself see someone else.

my sister has it also.i think i mat have it myself.i have all the symptoms,but i haven't said anything to my dr yet.most of them look at you like you are crazy.and of course its all your fault and they don't want to treat you..i was told i was borderline hypothyroid about 20 yrs ago.it got worse and everytime i would mention it to the dr,they would just say it will be ok.the last dr who checked told me it was all out of whack and put me on synthroid.have to go back for more bloodwork in a few weeks,i think it may have to be moved up some.good luck with the dr.

I am so sorry.  Not having a doctor believe you is frustrating and makes the situation worse.  I would definitely see another doctor to get a second opinion.

Definitely, find another doctor.

When a doctor smiles and shakes his head at you when you voice your concerns, he's not the kind of doctor that will help you get better.

You may have fibromyalgia, or you may not.

But you won't know unless you find a doctor that's willing to consider the options.

OMG I know exactly how you feel. Ever since I was 13  (over 10 years ago) I've had terrible pains in my side I've been in and out of hospitals and doctors with guesses from them like broken ribs, damaged diaphragm, bad cramps, and even bipolar disorder (because I must be making it up)  when I got pregnant at 21 I had a uterus abruption which happens to like 2% of the population without prior problems like c-section or some form of trauma. I then began to research it online to discover endometriosis and normally I'm not one to jump on a disease I find online but literally every symptom I've had at some point so whenever I brought it to my doctor he said he sees no real reason to look into that. Like he knows how I feel or something!...It's just soo frustrating!!!!

I would find me another doctor ASAP.  I hate doctors who don't take patients concerns seriously.  Go find another doctor who will listen to you and help you.  Good luck!

fibromyalgia pain is the most hurtful pain when i was trying to get diagnosed i hurt so bad i thought about killing myself my poor husbandwas up all night trying to keep my mind off the pain if it wasnt for him i would not be here today. the pain was undescribable to me luckily i did have a dr who does belive in it  if you are having absoltely unbearable pains you must keep looking for a dr

By all means, get another opinion.  There are physicians out there that just don't believe some of these illnesses exist.  Find yourself a new doctor for your own peace of mind.

Your doctor does not believe in such a thing as Fibro?  You need a new doctor.  Find one, immediately. 

Word of advice:  Do not mention that you have been researching it online.  When you go to a new doctor, do not mention ANY of the research you have done.  There are many people who do suffer from hypochondriac disorders.  Many hypochondriacs will self-diagnose.  The minute you tell the doctor that you have been researching this and you think you have it, they will assume that it is all in your head.    Many doctors have a "god complex" -- that ONLY they are qualified to say if you are sick or healthy.  Most doctors really do not like it when a patient is aware of the things going on their body.  And they really hate it if the problem is past their area of expertise.


So, get a new doctor.  Tell that doctor what your symptoms are in the greatest detail as possible.  You may even want to start keeping a diary of when the issues you have flare up.  Or, the next approach would be to visit the ER if you encounter a flare up that is really quite bad.  But do not tell the doctor about your research.  The doctor may just think you are wanting attention or worse.
