Without guns, our government would oppress us all into submission like they are trying to do right now. It is our right to own and bear arms that is keeping them at bay, and once you give them up, all hope for freedom in this nation will be lost forever, period. This is already in play and trying to be implemented. Our government is building a tyrannical police state right under our noses and people are allowing it, and they will soon be coming to try and take our guns. This is the time to use them and excercise our right and defend our freedoms as they were intended to do when our forfathers granted us these rights in the first place. The tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots from time to time if it is to survive.
As for gun safety, that is something that should be taught at home. Children need to be taught to respect guns. They are tools, nothing more. I don't trust the school systems to teach my kids anything, much less gun control. They are already indoctrinating our youth and brain washing them to conform and comply, and not how to be free thinkers who can think and act for themselves. Wake up America. It is time to seize our nation back and restore it to the people, and take it from the corporations and corrupt government institutions that currently have it.

This is a subject I don't think everyone will agree with. I just hope no one gets so upset they lose control and become nasty in their comments. We need to have a decent discussion whether you are pro or con on guns, and government gun control. Have a good day FusionCash Members

Yes I agree, but I think at least age 14 or 16. And yes registered and yes checked to see if on medications. But how far do we go into peoples private lives. Well, that is something to discuss no?

Kids need to learn more science, math and history before being taught how to use a gun.
Have a wonderful day!

I've never really heard about teaching gun safety at school.  No I would not like to see this part of the curriculum.

No because most people don't go on to own/handle guns in their life on a regular basis. It is definitely something that should be sought out if one does plan on getting friendly with them, though. Perhaps it could be taught as an elective is some kids were interested.

Do you think that gun and firearm safety should be taught in the public schools?

I think that would be a great idea and I also think that arming teachers and principals is smart too!!  After all, what better way to protect our kids!!!

In our state if a child wants to go hunting (first with parents) they must take a gun safty course, because they will not get a lic. without it. They are taught how to respect a gun and how to take care it what  and what not do with one. How to respect other people while around on. Respecting others land and property. My youngest son took it and liked it so well that he took one of my friends twin girl to learn and then another boy and helped then teach it. It is all put on by the fish and wildlife of the state. Also my husband teaches it in the 4-h groups (senior division) for their shooting matches and he is a retired fish and wildlife game warden. My kids grew up with guns around all the time and never did anything wrong with with them nor all of the other farm and ranch kids.  Guns are for the most part only harmful in the hands of those intent on harm.

No I think it's the responsibility of the parents to teach their children about firearms.  Although I DO BELIEVE IN HAVING OUR TEACHERS ARMED IN ORDER TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN.  I also believe that any further "gun bans" or "laws against guns" is a BAD IDEA!!!!  After all did you ever meet a criminal WHO OBEYS THE LAWS????

Have you ever met anyone who accidentally shot a loved one with a loaded gun?  That five year boy in Kentucky that shot his younger sister will have to live with that burden the rest of his life because some idiot adult thought it was appropriate to give him a gun in the first place and not keep it locked up in a gun safe.  Having guns around does not guarantee children's safety.

When I was in High School, I joined the ROTC. And joined the rifle club which was a competition  with other ROTC High Schools. We were not only taught gun safety, but discipline. This is the age when you are around 17 and way it can be taught. But realize .... there always are nuts out there, even those with knives, forks and spoons, and yes pressure cookers, etc. But one thing for sure, my family can defend themselves against those that want to take our lives, or rob us or rape us, or whatever.   Just my thinking, but I don't go out trying to do horrid things to others. So I am glad I grew up at the time I did.

A co-worker and friend of mine showed me this article which thoroughly amazed me.  It concerned two children, a five year old boy and his 2 year old sister (I think I have the ages correct - I know they were pre-kindergarden age.  Apparently in this part of this country, it is common for parents to give their children guns at this age.  Well, the five year old accidentally shot and killed his sister.  What a country we live in and this is the result of not controlling handguns.

Many people will say, I would never allow my kids to have a gun.  I am more responsible than that.  If that is the case, why do so many case such as this keep happening all the time.

Besides, here is my counter-argument to those who say I need my gun for protection since I live in a bad neighborhood.

Well here is my take:  If you are a responsible parent, you will lock your gun up in the safe.  I suppose then you would transfer your gun to your bedside before going to sleep.  What if your child comes in your room and sees the gun and takes it - accident waiting to happen.  What if the gun is still locked in the safe.  Do you honestly think you will have time to get the gun out if someone breaks in.  Chances are they will be quiet and by the time you realize it they could have a gun at your head.  Further they are not exactly going to make it easy for you to have the chance to shoot them.  And plus, you are most likely going to be nervous and that can make you miss-fire or shoot someone in your family by mistake.

We see the average accident cases, are we wanting more because someone might do something, I think you risk more lives by bringing guns in.

If you want to teach your child about guns take them to a gun range or let them take a class about guns. I personly don't like guns but I think it is okay for people who do but there does need to be some sort of cut off point as to how many and what kind the average person can own.
