I think my boss is bipolar.
« on: May 11, 2013, 06:45:05 pm »
I realised today my boss could possibly be bipolar. One day she is so nice and the next day she is mean as can be. If she is, don't you think she should of mentioned this to  her employees, so they know what to expect. It is not easy working with someone that has this condition. I hope for her sake, she is on medication for this.

She has no obligation to disclose any possible medical conditions to her employees.

She may be having troubles at home, or even troubles at work, it sounds more like mood swings, doesn't necessarily make her bipolar, bipolar has many more symptoms than just mood swings.

Usually the bi-polar person cycles about every 6-12 weeks or longer. A study in 1992 found that 35% of people with bipolar disorder had only one cycle in a 5-year period, while 1% of the same group went through a complete cycle about every 3 months (Coryell et al). The phrase rapid cycling is tagged to the diagnosis of those who have four or more cycles in a 12-month period.

i worked with a co-worker who i was convinced was bi-polar.
IF she wasn't bi-polar, she was deeply paranoid and insecure,
overly sensitive, and driven by jealousy beyond belief!

once in awhile she was genuinely nice and in a good mood, and it was
strange to see her flip flop in and out of her moods.

thank god she finally quit! i was very perceptive of her and could
read her like a book, while she had most everyone else on the staff
fooled... which is exactly why she hated me. after she had gone,
EVERYONE began to get along and finally started to see the damage
she had caused. it only takes one bad apple to ruin the bunch? YEP.

Bipolar is a challenging condition.  I hope things get better at your workplace.  I wish you and your colleagues all the best.

Some people who are bipolar don't realize that there's anything wrong with them.  It's like trying to see the forest through the trees.
Others might be in denial about having the mental health issue.

I understand why you would say that it's NOT easy to work with someone like that.  Maybe you can celebrate the fact that you're NOT married to that person where you'd have to deal with the unpredictable behavior on your personal time.  Hang in there!

Have a great day!

I once worked with a boss who was strange to me.  She didn't like kids, and the only time she smiled was when her "Sweetmeat" came to town (she lived in Chicago and her husband lived in Woodlawn,Tennessee.  I didn't consider her bi-polar; she was just weird to me.  Her thought waves were just strange as all get out. :o :o :o

That is so true. They also have a habit of thinking I don't need my meds and when they are on them and on doing well. They stop taking taking them and the cycle starts all over again. Great insight. Thanks for sharing!

Are you a medical profession person who can diagnose these type of illnesses?

Bipolarity (just made this word up...I don't know if it actually exists?) is nasty. I lived with a bipolar guy. Whooooooo, never knew what to expect on any given day. From the sweetest man to the most disgusting werewolf in a matter of minutes! Thank goodness he is history now. Good luck to you dealing with this boss of yours!!
