Pretty disturbing, isn't it?  I understand if you are watching a terrorist somewhere and he calls someone in the US.  Maybe then you should be able to get a warrant and listen in for probably cause, but to just say we are going to get everybody's info because someone might be working with terrorists????  Are you kidding me?  Why aren't people having a fit about this?

I think it's a bunch of BS.  :angry7:  When will America return to it's roots and be America again? Remember "For the people, by the people", not for the government, by the government! :BangHead:

That's what the Patriot Act was meant to do.  It was never about terrorists or terrorism.  It was another way that your government could encroach upon your rights.  Stay far away from politicians who support things like this.  As far as I'm concerned, if they're TRULY looking for "terrorists," they should be PROFILING.  Profiling works for Israel and it could work for us here, too.

:angry7: :bs: This really makes me want to get rid of my internet and cell phone! America will never be the same this way! We need to stick together but its hard for people to do that now a days. They are too scared or dont care or something else. I wish they would put regular guys(women) like us in the white house. One that WILL work with the people and stop this  :bs:. Never happen thoou because those big guys are scared that we may lead this nation in the RIGHT direction. So sad to see America the way it is.. no freedom of speech or land of the free. :crybaby2:

this is a joke, right? people didn't relieze call records are stored? record are always kept, att has records of calls going back to the 20's. all cell and data information is kept when it goes though a router. each time you make a call that information is stored in the computer. they keep calling this government data mining, but the data was collected and stored by the phone and internet companies, the government just made themselves a key to go into the data and look when they need to. at least president obama get warrants first, bush said he could do this without a warrant. you agree to allow any law enforcement agency to look at your records if they have reason, it is in the fine print of all cell service contracts. you can't call this an invasion of privacy when you willing put a gps enabled device in your pocket, it can always be tracked. i feel sorry for anyone who didn't know that, people act like we are suddanly living in orwells 1984. like i said at least obama followed the law and get warrants first, keep congress in the loop and most people have know about this for decades, at least smart people

I am a Verizon wireless customer and I am positive that I was never served a warrant by the federal government, so Obama did not follow the law.  The phone company having this information is a far cry from the federal government having it.  The phone company has a legitimate business purpose for having this info.  If I call them up to dispute a bill, of course, they have to keep records.  What legitimate purpose does the federal government have to have my phone records?

The phone company cannot threaten me with their power if the don't like who I am calling, but the federal government sure can use my information to make my life miserable now, can't they?  Say I call a number that is associated with, oh...I don't know.... let's say, my local Tea Party.  All of a sudden the IRS comes back from their lavish vacation where they acted like fools on our dollar, and they come knocking on my door for an audit.

To say that the government having this info is no big deal because the phone companies already have it, would be like saying it's ok for the government to have all your personal medical information just because your doctor has it.

Oh, and The Patriot Act was not to allow the government to have everyone's information and then see if there is anything they want to know, it was to get the records of someone who was communicating with people out of the country considered to be suspicious.  Bush never confiscated the records of people who use Google, Facebook, Verizon, A T & T, etc.  If you think that is the same, then you are just wrong.

the government does not have your records, they just use the records the phone and internet companies already keep. the government has access to anyone's data because the cell companies collect it. the cell and internet data kept does not belong to you any way, it is owned by the company that is why the warrant goes to att or verizon not you, it is legally not yours.  i don't understand how anyone could not know this is what happens, no one has keep it a secret. as for the paranoia of obama is coming to get you, i really don't understand that, as a liberal i hated bush, but i never that he was out to get me, so loosen up the tinfoil hat

Just because records from phone and internet companies are stored for business purposes does not give the government the right to look at them for whatever reason they see fit. It's complete  :bs:. I wish more people cared enough to let their voices be heard on issues like this. We need to elect people to Congressional and Presidential positions that want to get America back on track, the way the Founding Fathers intended for it to be. Not a government entity trying to rule the whole country, but a country for peoples' freedom.

actually it does and you gave them permission to do it. it is in the service contract you signed. the companies have to give access to all records the government asks for if they have a warrant, which they got. why is this a shock to everyone, it was not a secret. we have know for years. i watched a 2008 episode of ncis where they talking about their access to cell and data records. at least the president is following the law, which is aviable to anyone who wants to look it up. it is not a crime just because you are not paying attention.

I just try and enjoy the image of the poor person trapped in a cubical spending hours listening to me complain about my mother-in-law or how my children never appreciate the meals I cook for them. The vast majority of what they are looking/listening too has got to mind numbing if they aren't "profiling" in some way.

No one is sitting there listening to your conversations and no one is blindly sifting through conversations trying to find something.
