"TEXT MESSAGES" IS IT A LIFE GUARD OR A WASTE OF TIME???
« on: June 03, 2009, 07:34:36 am »
I honestly think that text messages are good for EMERGENCIES. For instance, if you are in a place where you are not allowed to talk on the phone, you may text without making it obvious.
It's a very childish way to talk on the phone, I prefer not to call it TEXTING but CHATING!!!

I think texting is amazing b/c if there is something you need to tell/ask someone but you know if you call them that you will probably be on the phone for hours then you can simply just text them

It is a good form of communication if that's your favorite way of keeping in touch.

I agree with Stacy. I use it when I don't want to caught up in an hour long conversation with someone when all I need to know is if they're coming over on Saturday.

teenagers are bringing about a new wave of carpal tunnel syndrome, seriously!
that's blocked on my phone-got sick of people texting me! my daughter uses it and i still don't get all the hype.
i hate talking or texting. my cell is all i have - no landline at home -becoming obsolete! i guess i feel safe? having my phone, it's a tool, not a hobby for me.

I find it easier to text than to call, depending on the situation.  A personal call may not be looked upon very highly at work, but you can send a text in a matter of seconds, get your response, and go about your day.

I primarily use my phone to text so I wouldn't say it's a waste of time.  I get really awkward and nervous on the phone so texting is an easy way for me to talk without getting flustered since I can think out my reply before sending it.  Sometimes it does get a bit ridiculous though when people use it to discuss serious matters or try to ask people out/break up via text message. Somethings are just better done in person.  And I absolutely despise getting forwards.

So there are pros and cons, but I still like it!

i enjoy texting but i do agree it is a little childish. I like it because you might be around someone that you dont want in your bussiness, so you text to keep your other conersation private.

I do not care to use text messages.  I am also not a fan of electronic communications in general.  I think that you lose any emotion that may be there and can often be misunderstood in what you say because of it.

I THINK TEXT MESSSAGES  ARE A GREAT WAY TO KEEP IN TOUCH

ESPECIALLY WITH FRIENDS WHO, WOULD CALL YOU A THOUSAND TIMES A DAY.

AND SOMETIMES IT IS BETTER TO TEXT THAN TO TALK OUT LOUD.

(IN CLASS, AT WORK, DOCTORS OFFICE ,ETC.)

I love text messaging I think it is a saver by far. My husband and I can stay in contact while he is at work cause he can text but can't be on the phone. And it is a miracle for me cause I am able to stay connected with people. I have three small kids that love to make tons of noise when I get on a phone call so text is easier for me. Best of all if oyu don't want to get into a big conversation with someone then text is right up your alley

Saves time when you need to communicate but don't have time to have a full blown convo.
