I quit cold turkey on July 4, 1964 and certainly don't regret it. I was two packs a day and threw them away. The problem with cutting back is it makes you crave it even more. I had two younger siblings die from the results of smoking, so it makes me feel even more blessed that I was able to quit.

I quit in March 1999.  I quit with help from the patch, but unfortunately it was too late for me.  I was diagnosed with COPD, from smoking

I never smoked, but my dad and uncles all did.  My dad stopped cold turkey when the hospital told him he should quit, or die.  He told my sister and I to go in his coat pocket and destroy the cigarettes.  He never smoked after that day.  What will power!

I've tried one cigarette when I was 19. Most of my family were smokers and being around it got me curious so I tried it. Well, I can honestly say I'll never go back. That first inhale was awful. Felt like my lungs were on fire.

I am a nonsmoker. I'd like to ask everyone who smokes to please not throw your cigs out the window as you drive through Colorado and other states with lots of fires. Get rid of them some other way. Colorado and the west has waaaay too many fires and is at risk for more. Thanks! I have 7 friends who lost houses in the last week due to fires and I was personally evacuated, too.

Yeah all the fires going on in Colorado right now are crazy. The wind is blowing the smoke our way and the house stinks. We had to close all the windows.

I don't smoke at all and have no desire to. The smell of smoke and the fact that it can cause diseases makes me not want to pick up the habit. I am very happy for those who were able to quit though. I'm glad that they were able to beat that habit and I'm also happy for those who are trying to quit and hope they are successful. I hope you who has COPD is able to get better and I'm sorry to hear about your suffering. I believe God can heal any illness and hope you are able to recover soon.
