Most people don't take their kids out for Halloween any more where I live. We haven't had anyone come to the door in about 10 years even though we are right on the road and keep all the lights on. I haven't even bought candy in a couple of years because no one comes.

When I was growing up, my sister's birthday is on Halloween.  I didn't go out to collect candy because there were idiots who would throw rotten eggs at us.  When my daughter was a child, she only got candy from the store, the after school program, and school.  That changed when she was 13.  I remember hearing about people being that mean-spirited and putting razor blades in candy or poisoning children.  I kept that image in my mind and was afraid to let my daughter go out before.  Thank you for being cautious of those things. :o :o :o

Yes it can be quite dangerous letting your child go trick or treating without an adult with them. I take my daughter around our neighborhood nowhere else.

I have a lot of fun with my son as I tend to dress up too. I always walk with him..even to the doors and we always check candy out before we eat it. It is unfortunate that we have to take so many precautions in today's world.

How many are NOT taking your kids out treat or treating this year? I willl only take my grandchildren to my relatives houses. It is getting so scarey thinking what people do to harm or kill children with poison candy, razor blades etc. I will not allow my children to go anywhere without me or to any houses we dare not derinitely sure of the people. Please have a safe Halloween! Watch your children and your pets!

TO ANYONE WHO'S AFRAID OF SIMPLE HALLOWEEN TRADITIONS-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poisoned_candy_myths

Usually the truth hurts in these instances, but in this case the truth is awesome! I have no fear on Halloween of poisonous candy or murderers since the statistics of those things are so exhaggerated, vague, or completely false. Granted it could happen, but you or your kids could easily get poisoned with any food you eat at any time. Halloween is great! Don't be scared of every little thing. If you are, you've miserably failed in upholding one of the most fun traditions this country offers. Have a great Halloween! I'll be taking out my neighbors kids out this year and will also be attending the Madison Freakfest.

That's true, you never know what will happen when you go visiting housing... Although my neighborhood is pretty good, some of them don't open the door for trick or treaters.. The one thing I don't like is that some trick or treater aren't accompanied by an adult (they're somewhere near or accompany by a teenager)..

Only go to one neighborhood where I know it is safe for my children to go trick or treating. Been going to this neighborhood for years and will continue to go.

I live in a very safe area so I don't really have to worry about stuff like that.

I take my child trick or treating. I have never felt unsafe. A group of us (usually 3-4 adults) take the two kids (6 and 7 this year) out.

I refuse to let crazy fears dictate my life. Be aware of your surroundings and you will be fine.

I go with my daughter, son-in-law, husband and 3 granddaughters every year. We go to their neighborhood which is a very nice place to raise your children. But even knowing this neighborhood is so great their mom and dad inspect their candy before they can have any of it. You just never know who you can trust. Keep safe.  :)
