I remember very little of my past, with the exception of some VERY bad memories or VERY good memories. It's how I've always been. I think a person really has to make a point of remembering things or they will disappear.

I always thought that taking pictures was a good way to remember things, and now I hear that that's called something like picture dependency that hinders your own memory from remembering. Whatever!

I can go and see a movie and won't remember 9/10ths of it when I walk out of the theatre. That drives my kids crazy. They can't understand that that's just how I am. I wish I could change it, but I don't know how.  :notworthy:

Yeppers, that's a great question!  Hardy har har ... I'm 60, remember not too much of my early childhood, but I do remember some stuff.  Seems I have more sporadic memories ... some good, some not so good.  It's the 45-60 that's even more sporadic!  Whuda thunk it!?

I don't remember much of my past, but that's probably because it's mostly made up of daily activities that repeat.  Wake up, go to school, go home, do homework, play, shower, bed, repeat.  So, there isn't much of that to remember.  Things like vacations sorta stick though.  I may not remember what we ate during the trip, but I remember the big things that happened during the trip.

I don't know if it would help in remembering the past, but doing mental exercises should help with retention.  I do things like logic games, sudoku, puzzle games, etc.  I also spend a lot of my time watching TV shows that are crime-ish focus (Castle, Bones, NCIS, Monk, Psych, Elementary).  The reason I watch those specifically instead of others is cause most of them can be solved before the end is revealed.  If you read the evidence the right way, you can beat the main characters to the answers.  I've noticed that the more I've watched them, the easier it gets to solve them.  I was watching with my sister and made a remark about the person being shot with an ice bullet, and then later I said, "you know, a blood bullet would be better than an ice bullet" and it ended up being that that was what happened in the show.

Obviously, I'm still young so that could be a benefit for me, but I still think things like this would keep your brain active and thus allow you to retain information better.

I remember the past very well.  I keep several blogs, so I can go back to them and recall events that have happened in my life.  What a terrific question!  Have a great day!

I'd rather look forward to the future and think about it.

It's interesting I have such a horrible memory... yet I agree with dkanofsky about wanting to look forward to the future.  I'm reading a book now called super brain - and it talks about how we put things from our past in memory banks...than when tend to fall into habits that are all triggered from our past memories and habits - I understand that part... so why I can't remember much is still a mystery for me.

I am 58 years old and I have pretty sharp memories going back to being 4 years old. I can remember the red brick house we lived in at the edge of a small town when I was that young and the dirt floor (yes, dirt floor) garage. We moved a lot after that and I have pretty clear memories of each place we lived.

I can remember things that happened 40 or 50 years ago than what has happened in the past year or 2.  Maybe those years back then were more trouble free than they are today.  Hope everyone has a good day and may God bless each of you and keep you safe and warm. :clover:

I don't remember every waking day but I do remember things from my past....I remember I must have been around 2, and my mother and I would walk with my brother to meet the bus in the morning and in the evening we would go back to meet him...I remember my granny playing with me and holding me and rocking me to sleep....and things like that....but it's in bits and pieces.....

I have very few memories of my past, especially of my childhood but then heck, lately I can't remember what happened in a current day!  I use to be able to read a whole book through but now I can hardly absorb what I read and have to go back and re-read over and over again, so I read very little now.  Get's Frustrating! :-\
