Quite the opposite. Everyone likes me BEST from my other supervisors and FAR from a snitch! Doing what I have to do! If they found out that I knew of any evidence of someone abusing drugs, I would be an accomplice, therefore - I could lose my job! My job is not worth losing over some POT HEAD! I bet you smoke don't ya?? lol  :P

How is telling on someone FAR from a snitch? Pretty much the definition of one, no?

Some jobs really enforce the illegal substance policy while other jobs don't even bother enforcing it and in fact, rather not even deal with it all together.

Jobs where being under the influence can be detrimental to one's job duties may be more stricter.

Ask yourself this question... Is this person who is smoking marijuana, in a position of authority? Are they operating equipment or machinery while high?

There are a lot of people who smoke weed on the weekends or after coming home from work, but it doesn't have a direct impact on their job duties; it still doesn't make it right and they still may be in violation of their employers illegal substance abuse policy. Just something to think about...

If more employers did do drug testing it might encourage the ones using drugs to stop.  I don't think anyone who hires on with a company knowing they drug test would have any room to complain.  Of course, I think there are things on the market that can keep drugs from showing up when someone is tested.  Probably doesn't work on all types of drugs but I think it did on marijuana.  One of our daughters said a friend of hers bought the stuff for about $60 so they could pass a drug test to get a new job.  That was about 10-15 years ago so I'm sure there's other stuff out there now.  And, I definitely agree with the post that people getting welfare and food stamps should be drug tested.

Well me, I still don't consider pot a drug....I do consider pills a drug, so many people are abusing pills each and every day and dying from them.....I hope and pray they soon legalize pot simply because it helps so many people to deal with every day life and all the finger pointers who have no clue what is going on in another persons life, just because a person smoke pot does not mean they are bad, or they will steal...they may just be trying to deal with all the bull they have to tolerate in their daily lives....people love to point fingers and judge people, just because you don't do something means it's bad....

I would say you should be happy to be surrounded by employers that enable lackluster performance from the impaired and double your blessings because their inadequacy makes you look like a Rock Star!  Corporate America doesn't seem to subscribe to the Darwinian line of thinking where the strong will survive.  We are creating a society, beautifully described in Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, in which the strong/creative/motivated are penalized and sub par results are encouraged/rewarded. This seems to have begun in our elementary schools with not allowing kids to pick who they want on their sports teams (because you don't want any one to get an inferiority complex) and giving ribbons to kids regardless of what place they come in in a race.

I don't want to start any argument here, but I do just want to point out that marijuana is a drug, whether you want to believe it or not.  The fact of the matter is that it's an exogenous chemical that affects the way your body would otherwise function.  I'm with you there that people shouldn't make judgments on what others do though.  I think a big reason why people tend to generalize about marijuana-users might be because it's an illicit substance (at least where I'm from), and they're breaking the law.

Drug testing should be mandatory for all jobs. If someone is under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol in the work place, everyone could potentially be at risk.

Drug testing costs $$$, which is why it's not mandatory. For a lot of businesses, it would just be a waste of resources.

I believe in the rights of individuals to choose for themselves.  I am just saddened to see that there are so many individuals that are high on one drug of choice or another.  And of all the individuals that fall into various addictions whether drugs or foods.  Whether there are laws or not against distribution or possession it will most undoubtedly always exist.  I however would not prefer to be around it!

I know as individuals and as a society, we are not perfect.  However, I prefer environments that are less harmful and toxic.  In todays day and age that may have to be some secluded area away from others and their influences.

SAD when we as a society ... choose unhealthy self destructive behaviors rather than healthy ones.
