What is the best piece of advice you ever received?
« on: April 01, 2014, 07:08:47 pm »
I was told to get tested for diabetes by a friend due to
Some health problems I was having and I found out that I do not
Have diabetes, but low blood sugar which answered a lot
Of questions regarding health issues I had,  but did not know why. I
Took my friend to dinner for that.

What about you?

I'm sorry to hear about the health problems, but I'm glad you're getting answers. With that I hope you're also getting proper help now.

I'm sure I've been given a lot of good advice, but my mind's blocking me from remembering most...

Here's one that I don't remember being given, but it did come in handy. I have blackout seizures and after my first known one (I get the feeling it wasn't the first) my friend apparently had me write down certain information and told me to keep it in my wallet. As it turned out, a couple nights later I had another one that landed me in the hospital. The slip of paper was very important.

I know I've been told to keep journals to keep track of my health numerous times, but I just can't do it...

I received this advice, and the person did not tell me; it was based on what I saw my stepfather do.  He was a weekend drinker and would pick on me when he was drunk.  I tell people today that I learned from him not to drink.  He got drunk one time and his father hit him in both cheeks with a baseball bat, fracturing them.  My mother would not let me come over to her house because she knew I was going to laugh.  True to form, I did.  My mother and he got married, and I found it strange that, in her excitement to get married to him, she forgot to get a preacher to marry them.  When the lady next door got the pastor, my stepfather, upon hearing the preacher speak about love, told the preacher, "I ain't jealous."  He went on to get a strange look from the preacher's wife when he decided to divulge that he had spent 8 years with my mother.  The preacher asked if they had a ring, and my mother said no.   He said that he bought her one but she lost it, which caused laughter.  The preacher went on to pronounce them man and wife.  He kissed her on the cheek and she slapped him.  She married him 3 months before he died from cirrhosis of the liver. :( :( :( :rainbow:

To Let Go and Let God ... my mother always told me to say that when I was in a quandary and not knowing which way to go.  she mostly said that I needed to get outta the way and let God do the work.

So there are days where I say "Let God and Let God" a lot! God has by back and I'm not some religious nut, just spiritual.

HUGS all

This is really simple but I remember my dad teaching me to use a screwdriver... Righty, Tighty, Lefty, Loosey. I remember it to this day and it works with not only screwdrivers but jam jars, juicy cups, nail polish, milk gallon cartons etc. When other people have been struggling to know they they are unscrewing their coffee container or in fact tightening it up, I say, Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey.

My father always said "Time is the most precious commodity we have".  Truer words have not been spoken. When I am at my day time job I try to get everything done as quickly and efficiently as possible because, inevitably, some interruption will come along that will keep me from completing projects with the highest quality. When I get home I follow the same course with my second job and squeeze in my posts, point to clicks and radioloyalty. Dual tasking is my best time investment and the rewards have been great...my precious commodity has been invested properly.

Everything works out for the best...not sure it's always true.  But no matter what...my dad would say this and it just means something else is around the corner.  Have a great weekend everyone.

The advice that has made me more money than any other was, "Tell them enough to get the sale and then SHUT UP".

When I was a little girl, I always thought I was ugly.  When I would say I wished I was prettier, my mother would say, Smile, you're always prettier when you smile.  I think that is true.  As I got older, I grew out of my awkwardness and had a fair number of boyfriends.  :)   Now sometimes when I'm in a store or walking down the street, I notice people smiling at me.  Then I realize I am unconsciously smiling.

My Father said to me that the color of your skin does not decipher who you are it is just a obstacle that the white man want you to think will deter you from your dream.

My favorite advice comes from a quote. Im paraphrasing-  People may forget what you said or what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel.
