Just prepare everything in advance. I was thinking I could start preparing it in the last 4 months as the maternity leave started. Guess what...I got a 6 weeks premature baby. So I got to start up my 6 weeks worth work within 6 days. Have you started your maternity leave yet?   :angel11:

let your instincts guide you.  trust your gut.  no one feels ready for the giant step that is motherhood.  you learn through experience.  so don't put too much pressure on yourself!

Make sure you have your bag of stuff that you will need in the car as well as the car seat.  You won't feel like doing it when you are starting to have contractions.  As for being a mommy...you would be surprised how natural it comes.  I was worried about how to take care of my daughter up until I saw her.  It was all down hill from there.  Its natural.

When is your due date??  My best friend is due Sept. 21st and I'm due November 26th (her first, my 2nd).  With my son, it did come natural.  We were made to be mommies, so it really comes as a 2nd nature... sure, you'll have moments of "holy crap... what do I do..." but you get through it.  That baby will learn to love you no matter what, they know they can trust you.  The car seat... yes... have in the car early.  My husband just put it off and put it off and then my water full out broke... gushing broke 2 weeks early and he was in a rush to get the car seat in since I sure as heck couldn't do it.  And you can never have too many sleepers and onesies!!  I'm sure there's more I could say, but I'll stop!!  ;D  Just enjoy every second of it, even when it gets hard.  They are so worth it!!  Congratulations!! :binkybaby:

If you're breastfeeding, don't let anyone freak you out too bad... it's pretty painful/hard at first but it gets WAY easier!

I'm sure you haven't thought about cloth diapers, but if you're interested in them at all, they make your life so much easier  - plus they are WAY cuter on the baby! They will save you TONS of money in the long run... and tons of icky poopy diapers from the landfills  :'(

A tip for your labor/birth: Do NOT let doctors pressure you into anything! I planned for an all-natural birth and about 12 hours in, a nurse came in and said "here's something for the pain" and put it in the IV before I could stop her! Then after 17 hours the doctor ARGUED with me saying I needed an epidural even though i was fine... so finally I gave in and couldn't feel ANYTHIGN so when it was time to push, I tried for 45 minutes and couldn't move him... then she made me think I needed a c-section.. come to find out, she just wanted to get out of there faster :(
Not trying to scare you - no matter how you do it, birth is  abeautiful thing and you will be SO HAPPY to see your baby!

Are you having a little girl or boy? I'm VERY opinionated obviously hahaha so I won't even get into the circumcision debate ;)

If you want more info on cloth diapers, let me know! They are so much fun and SO addictive - totally not your grandma's cloth diapers though... they are very modern and so easy!

Pack your bag early have lucky socks and most of all ask for an epideral.  My wife just loved that thing.  With four kids, she needed it with our #4.

That's a bunch of good advice as well.... Breastfeeding can be a bit of a challenge at first, but it's really not that bad.  It is best for the baby if you can do it.  I was only able to for about 3 weeks and had to quit because my son had extreme acid reflux.  I literally had to feed him while he was sitting up and that was a challenge too!!  Cloth diapers ARE ADDICTING!!  LOL  I find awesome deals on brand new ones on Ebay all the time.  They're not your mom's cloth diapers either.  There are brands out there that you can use just like a disposable and then wash and reuse.  It's awesome.  My hubby thought I was crazy when I started with them, but now he's all for it when he sees we NEVER buy diapers anymore.  I blog about diapers and general stuff if you are interested.  You can find great resources all over and I'm happy to help you!!  I read somewhere else you where from MO?  where in Mo do you live?  I'm a Missourian too!!  :)

I live in SC, but i don't know if you were talking about me or the OP lol... I'm so happy to find another cloth diaper-er... I have been on a hiatus from CDs for about 2 weeks trying to get my life in order -I can NOT add laundry on top of that (I hand wash) but I am sooo desperate to get the fluff back on Baby's butt.. poor guy HATES sposies.
I blog about my CD adventures too :)
*link removed* (I'm pretty sure there are no referral links on my blog so I don't think I'm breaking rules, it's just a blog!) - Oops, I checked and I do have referral links on my sidebar so I can't post the link to my blog... just google "Suburban Cloth" !
What's your blog?

Like everyone else said be prepared. You can never be too prepared. Get all your information know what is going on. If you haven't yet come up with a birth plan when you know what is going on the better. But be prpeared that things don't always go as planned. I found a site called momslikeme.com that is all mommies that can give great advice you may want to look into it helped me alot. Your baby regardless of what tv tells you will not be all clean when he or she comes out. they cry when they are tired, hungry, need a change and more and as they get older you should be able to tell more what they want as they cry. Things get easier as time goes hang in there and congrats on the baby
