Noise
« on: October 07, 2014, 07:29:44 am »
When you take your break or lunch time at work, do you go to a noisey or
quiet environment to enjoy your time?

I like quiet environments, like my car or a kitchen where no one else is
in. Flor lunch that happens for me because i go at 11:30am and no one is in the
kitchen at that time.

The older i get, the more i do not like a lot of noise.6

I am SO sensitive to noise... when we moved offices our kitchen became MUCH smaller. The sound of the ice maker, soda machine and fridge is too loud for me to read. Has made my lunch breaks SUPER annoying :(

I don't like noise.  My parrot is loud. My husband is loud. And sometimes I just leave the house to enjoy some silence.

For a 15 I usually just go in the break room unless I am upset or annoyed or need to make a phone call and I go outside.  For my lunch break I always go to my car.  I use to stay inside but my co-workers are stupid and usually the break room talk is pretty nasty and sexual jokes.  Then I get made fun of when I don't laugh and they act like I don't know what it means or they have to explain it to me.  UH no, I just don't find that funny.

I don't mind some noise, preferably of my own choosing (I have my mp3 plugged in now, for example).  However, I work in a call center, and I nicknamed it "The Cattlebarn" long ago.  Actually, I think cows would be quieter.  I work next to people who are so LOUD that when I stop talking the person on the other end thinks I'm still talking because they hear the person next to me.  And that's TOO loud.

I would prefer a quiet area. I'm not a fan of a lot of noise.

These days I work at home, but that doesn't make me exempt.  I have neighbors who like to crank their stereos from time to time.

I used to work in a sign company some time ago and I would always take my lunch break in my car.  They had a nasty habit of interupting my break with work questions.  They couldn't seem to grasp the concept of a break.  I kept a book and afghan in my back seat so I could get away.

Later I worked swing shift in aerospace.  There weren't that many people in the building during those hours so it was easy to take my break when the others didn't.

I remember when I was a child going to visit my grandparents. My mum would always tell us prior to visiting that me and my sisters needed to be quiet because our grandparents couldn't stand a lot of noise. I always thought that ''was odd however now that my grandparents have passed away and my mum is the 'grandparent', whenever we take our children over, my mum escapes to the 'quiet' back bedroom! So eventually, I expect I will become the grandparent and will want my quiet.

I like a little background noise, as long as it's not directed at me... I actually get distracted if it's too quiet; I tend to look up from whatever I'm doing much more often to see what's going on when it gets too quiet. The only time I get distracted by noise is if it is directed at me, like someone asking a question, the phone going off, etc. But otherwise just a little bit of noise. That includes lunch... I'll go to the cafeteria where people at other tables are talking to each other to give just enough background noise that I can read my book without being distracted from lack of noise.

Hi,
What a great question.  I agree with you.  When I am on my lunchbreak at work, I prefer to enjoy my lunch in a quiet place.
