Slenderman Court Case
« on: February 21, 2015, 12:57:05 pm »
I watched the 20/20 segment on Slenderman with David Muir last night.  I know that young minds are impressionable, but I could not believe 12-year-olds would believe that.  And even the victim could not make up her mind whether she believed it or not before the attack.  At least she asked her mother.  I was curious about your thoughts on (1):  Parents should be more interactive with their children, especially adolescents on the internet.  (2)  Do you believe the two girls who attacked the victim should be tried in juvenile or adult court?  and (3)  Do you remember when you were 12 and what your childhood fantasies were?  I'm much too old to remember much of my childhood, but a fantasy I do remember was going to France and being an art student.  I also fantasized about being a queen or a princess.  I don't think harming anyone ever entered my mind when I was that age.  I think the media is raising a lot of children with very warped ideas.  (Don't get me wrong.  I do not believe in doing away with the media.  It has a lot of good things.  I just mean children should be monitored more close.y.)

What I don't understand is how/why 2 12 year old girls would try a kill a friend because a fictional character told them too.  I could, I guess, understand if a "live" person brainwashed them into doing that, but a fictional character, they have to have known he was not real.  If this is the mentality of our new generation.....I'm glad I won't be around to see it.

I watched most of this earlier today but didn't finish it because I had to go to work. I could not believe either, that at 12 years old the believed in this. I had never even heard of 'Slinderman' before this segment.

When I first heard about this case, I was speechless. I've seen the videos for this character, and I couldn't believe they would let children have access to this. I'm glad the little girl lived to tell her story, and it's up to the judge and the jury to decide what happens.

Society is always trying to put the blame on someone else. Movies, video games, music artists aren't the blame for children's actions. I'm 28 I've watched movies that were beyond violent , played gta for hours, listened to all sorts of music that had violent lyrics and I'm perfectly fine. I've never been arrested the only run in I've had with cops was for a speeding. I don't pop "molly" I don't have substance abuse or drinking problems. My parents good damn sure I knew right from wrong. And let me know that movies were fake

I remember hearing this story some time ago and maybe I just believe in harsher punishment, but I really don't think they really should be given leniency. They're at an age that they should be able to distinguish reality and fiction from the Internet. I expect, however, an insanity plea.
