Nosy Busy Bodies
« on: April 14, 2015, 12:25:29 pm »
Okay, first off the abuse of welfare and food stamps irritates me as much as anybody.  But lately I have heard so many people running the mouth about all the people who supposedly have Iphones and pay for their groceries with food stamps.  HOW to do you how the person in front of you pays?  Or what kind of card they are using?  Lately I keep the buggy behind me to people cannot get close to me when I am paying.  I actually have no idea how the person(s) in front of me pay for their stuff.

I had a co-worker fussing the other day about these 2 "fat girls" he met coming out of the gas station and they each - quote "had their own bag with a coke, chips, and other stuff in it and you know it was paid for with MY dime".  I didn't say anything but I am thinking why does he think they paid for it with food stamps?  He has no idea they did.  I am guessing because they were over weight.  Then he got off on the free cell phones and how HE is paying for that too.  Smh.

There are actually people who get food stamps and use the little bit of money they get to buy food to eat.  They don't waste it on junk food.  He actually said he has confronted people (like the 2 women mentioned above) about using a food stamp card.  He makes almost $20 an hour so he doesn't have to worry about how he will pay for anything.

I sense some anger in what you wrote.  I don't know whether food stamp recipients spend their money on junk food or food for their family.  I do feel the minimum wage should be increased so there would be fewer people needing the help.

Yes it made me angry.  I do not agree with increasing min wage.  When you do that hours will be cut and prices will be raised.  That is beside the point.  I do think people should be able to get more than 10 hours a week.  You could make it on min wage if you could get 35 to 40 hours a week.   I don't know.  There are a couple of others I work with that have been off on the same rant and it just irritates me at how judgmental people are.  He accused 2 people he did not know that he saw with a bag of chips and a coke of being a welfare bum simply because they were over weight.  And no, I am not fat. lol.  I have just heard a lot of people lately talking about how the people in front of them pay for their order and a lot of times when they accuse people of using an EBT card they are wrong.  I guess I am just irritated with how nosy and judgmental people are lately.  Seems everyone wants to talk negative about everyone else and make false accusations and even if the things they said were true it is none of their business.

And no it's not stuff that has been said about me either.

Many people that have EBT actually need it. Right now we have it in our household its not a lot but it helps and every six months we must send in paperwork so it isn't like we are abusing the system. Me and my husband are living with family and he does work and makes more than minimum wage but according to our state he and I are considered as our own household. We are also feeding 3 additional people during the week and on the weekends 7 people including ourselves. The things we buy are for meals for instance $13 chub of ground meat for multiple dishes and yes we buy chips but we also buy lunchmeat, bread and cheese. So people who talk about those who have food stamps really have no right to speak on what they saw one time. If they had food stamps its possible they had already taken care of their home and had a few dollars left for a couple of snacks.
